Way too much, so I just got the Soyuz 013s and they're brilliant. Am I bitter because of this state of affairs with vintage gear? Yes. Buy the Soyuz are so good that I don't care that much.

You can get one from Japan for up to $7000.
$2500 seems to be the norm.

hmmm...that's the reason I asked. One for $1800. They often list at insane $2500's...but I wonder if anyone actually buys them for that.

The $2500 price from someone like VK where you have QC and the ability to return or exchange it is reasonable for what you get, but there is on Musicgoround for $1800 worst case I wonder what a new capsule would cost.

Km84s were one of those things that people with more money than sense bought up in droves during COVID.
Seeing a large influx of them for sale again now but for insane amounts of money. Prices are consistently falling though. So who knows where they end up.

I have a mint pair from the last couple of years of production, like 87-89' according to Neumann. They're in the #58k range so that's how many there are out there. So not rare by any mean ha!
Still one of my y favourite work horse mics! If you have a commercial studio I'd say they're worth the investment for 1700$/ but not 2.5k each.. Wonder what I'll get for my km86s though heh 😁

Man. I love KM84s but that is a lot of bread.
I got a great strummy acoustic sound recently with a Samar MG20 and some silver bullet mojo/EQ.
Not a KM84 clone at all, but definitely a sweet mic.

Being a SDC (IMO) doesn't make a mic any less "valuable" than a LDC. Same with FET vs. Tube. The value is in how versatile the mic is, and how good it sounds - and the KM84 is a MASSIVE winner on both counts. I bought 2 for a bro deal of $650 WAAAY back from a good friend, and a third for $900 about 15 years ago. Almost everything I buy has doubled in the last 14 years, so to have a mic's value double doesn't seem outrageous. There's no doubt that $2500 is a hard pill to swallow, but based on sonics and versatility - it's worth well over $2500. My $0.02 - devalued to $0.0042365 for streaming purposes and Bidenomics..... PS - back when I bought those 2 for $650, I also bought a barely used Ford Explorer for $12k. Now....they are pushing up over $60-70k. That's 6X's the price. With the same inflation, dollar devaluation, that would put those 2 KM84's right around $4000 for the pair. Not outrageously out of line. Plus, I did get the bro deal on them....

Comparing pricing on cars with mics is apples and oranges. The better comparison is what does a Neumann SDC (184) go for now? $850 brand new with warranty. I love 84s when I get the chance to use them. But there's nothing wrong with pointing out the absurdity of paying $2500 for a used SDC.

USD$2500 for a KM84 is certainly not out of the realm of a reasonable price. I have honestly seen these go for a lot more.

Honestly schoeps, DPA, and Sennheiser all make better quieter options anyways. So I'm not sad about it any more.

Best to have all of the above! <<thumbsup>> One man's "absurd" is another man's lucky bonanza. If they aren't worth $2500, then no one will buy them at that price.

I mean, i do have all those haha well at work. I'd bet most would love a MK21 or MK4. Or a 4011a or 8040. hard to beat them, theres a reason why they are staples for us in the Classical world.
