The Focusrite Red series, what started the whole digital emulations thing. They weren’t great, didn’t really sound like the real thing but boy did they get the look of the front panel down. It is what led to companies like URS ect trying to copy API , Neve and SSL. UAD first with its own stuff, then like Waves licensing everything under the Sun.

From my perspective THE legend was the UAD LA2A plugin.
When I bought my first UAD-1 card it was for the LA2A plugin and as a plugin is stood head and shoulders above anything I had natively available in Logic’s stock plug-ins or from Waves.
Though Waves Ren Compressor was very good too but the UAD LA2A was a software emulation of a specific piece of hardware and that felt like a game changer to me.
Long time ago now!
It’s interesting to note (though the value of money has changed of course) I only payed $150 more for my second hand Audioscape Opto Comp then I payed for my first UAD-1 card to use the LA2A plugin …. go figure!
That UAD LA2A was made available native for free recently.

Thanks for reminding me about that, though. I always forget I have that plug and I need to a/b it on bass. I used to love the Chandler RS124 on bass.

It also amazing how stunning software can vanish just like hardware.
The TC electronic Powercore plugins where absolutely first class.
And didn't have cartoon GUI's trying to make you think you're using the actual hardware, as they weren't clones (except for Softubes CL1B)
The MD3 Mastering suite was class leading and I still have never found a Limiter I prefer to it's TC Brickwall Limiter.
The reverbs on Powercore were really fantastic too as was the Dynamic EQ.
They were never properly ported to native by Behringer.
A real shame imho.

Psp Oldtimer can do something similar too if you increase the release and dig in. It’s free for pro tools users www.pspaudioware.net/UserArea/lp/PSPoldTimerPTIC

Yeah the Waves only modeled the 60070B while the original had the 60050A and the 61010B as well. I thought the 3 models in that original plugin offered more variation than the Chandler Hardware does to be honest. The hardware is awesome but those 3 settings on it just change the attack time as far as I know while in this plug-in I think they modeled 3 completely separate units. It is kind of funny that superfuse mode in this plugin got added to the Chandler Hardware as that wasn't something that was in the original Abbey Road units. It was such a bummer to lose this one to the 64 bit transition. It's literally the last plugin I would have let go of given the choice.

That happened with the digital fish phones plugins with magix. And the later analogue modeling suite including ammunition sort of drifted away too.

I’m sure it being abbey road was the reason.

I remember the digital fish phones stuff was really cool as well. It was an Abbey Road plugin(there used to be an abbeyroadplugins.com site) release that I think was partly developed with Softube. The thing I don't get is that the Brilliance pack was sold and branded the same way and it has since been taken over by Softube and is still available, but when I asked them about the RS124 they said there was pretty much no hope of it happening. The TG12413 that was an Abbey Road/Chandler release also got canned and was later replaced by an inferior Waves version. It's weird to me.

Yeah I feel bad for anyone that bought this for $2,760 back in the day with the Fairchild options that are available now. I bet you'd have a hard time giving one away at this point.

I still have this on my 2009 MacPro (relegated to a recall machine at this point). I don't know what they did in the original but it's wild and awesome, would be very cool if they ever re-released it. The Waves is good too but doesn't grab me the same.

EchoFarm. The only plugin that I went and hunted down multiple hardware pieces when it went extinct. Thankfully, it was resurrected and I sold off most (kept one just in case) of the hardware units.

The only plug-in I feel I have to have is the UAD ATR-102. I could do an entire album with that plug-in alone.
