Ya know what's funny is, a client brought one of these to a session a few weeks ago, much to my chagrin. I'd never used one, and fully expected it to suck. Plus, my studio has a rather nice collection of real amps, most of which are the 'models' that the Katana alleges to recreate. I had very, very low expectations, and took a DI with the expectation that I'd be doing some reamping.
But lo and behold, I put a 57 and a 121 on it, and got some pretty good tones from it. 🤷🏻♀️

I probably should expand...
My back is not coping with lifting my amp for live.. .which isn't a big amp by any means.. its a Princeton Re Issue.
I was hoping something like the Katana, would be a replacement. I just didn't gel with it....
I am getting a Fender Princeton tonemaster sent out to try... it's the right weight, and ... well it's a Princeton....so we will see how it goes
cheers

I have a Katana MK2 for practicing only.
It's useless live imho.

I have a Katana MK2 for practicing only. It's useless live imho. Why is it useless? The tone at home is quite nice and good for practice. I took one for an experiment down to band rehearsals and against a band it sounded a bit naff to be honest. Kinda too artificial and a bit hollow in the all important mids. Maybe someone else would think it sounded great - it’s all highly subjective.

don't know but I have a hunch that one possibly less good sounding thing about the Katana combos could be the speaker running my Katana 100 head into an EVM 12L cabinet open or closed back sounds pretty damn good to me
somewhat similar to plugins I find that modeling amps take more messing with to get to the good sound than a regular tube amp once you mess with it properly it gets there or very close that said I still tend to go with the MusicMan or similar amp for gigs / band practice and the Katana is the fun home studio amp

He had made presets for different songs and it worked great. We did overdubs with my studio amps, but that was for contrast, not because his amp didn't sound good.

Went great. Didn’t tell the band till load out. No one noticed any difference. The line out to desk worked great. Very happy. Only difference to me is the vibrato doesn’t feel or sound the same. cheers Wiz
