How hard is it to re-amp using a Kemper? Can you easily track guitar parts as a line from the audio, but take a tap with a DI first and record it to a separate track and then run that guitar performance through various Kemper profiles later and get good results?
For years, some of us recorded a DI line from each guitar track separately and then ran it through various amps to find the perfect matching tone in the mix if the original amp wasn't cutting it. Sort of like a secret studio weapon.

Yes, you can do that. I used to use a Little Labs Redeye 3D Phantom when I first got the Kemper. I tried all combinations of recording the Kemper analog output, Kemper SPDIF output (using GIT/STACK), and the Redeye. I found them all to be great for reamping, but preferred the SPDIF. Of course SPDIF limits you to 44.1, unless you use something like a Lynx HILO which automatically converts sample rate to whatever you're using in your DAW. Here's some info about Kemper reamping: www.wikpa.org/Recording

Fuck what a miserable experience, NOT EVEN CLOSE. The reference was strong in the bottom, clearer top. I've been having this issue with the Kemper a lot lately, I've done some profiles where I can't hear it but whenever there's a loud high gain amp it all of a sudden shits the bed. Anyone got some experiences they could share when it comes to profiling? Ive had a great deal of success with mine. The profiling process, does take a few shots to get it right. Its more or less a recording, so like any other recording, what comes out of the speakers isnt always whats coming out of the amp. So I just keep adjusting the source till I get the profile Im looking for. The new librarian should help out with the organization of things. Between the Kemper and Evertune, cutting guitar tracks has never been better. all the best, Sean

I never profiled anything with the Kemper, but I really liked it a lot. I'd love to have another one. I ultimately sold the Kemper, bought a Deluxe and a 57 and called it a day. I have to say, I feel like I'm getting more muscle in my guitar tracks now. It's that lack of low mid thump that happens in the room that is what you miss when playing the Kemper - but I'm beginning to think you miss that a little in the recording too. I know plenty of studio guys that are using this for overdubs and small sessions, so I definitely believe it's a fantastic tool. The convenience is unrivaled. I never used many of the high gain versions or profiled them - but I know Michael Waegner swears by it, right? You think there's something wrong with yours? It for real is a funny topic for me because I know one of the designers, and I disliked the unit from the first moment on. My journey goes like this. I tryed to get a tone with many different Amp Sims (Amplitude/Guitar Rig/Scuffham/Amp Designer) in the last 3 years. It is nothing but wasting time!!!
Nasty distortions which hurt my ear in the 3-4 k range, which you even cant remove with an EQ because its some kind of imprinted. But waht if you want to track late at night. Thats what I did, and it sounds fantastic with Redwire Impulses for the cabinet part.

The whole 'Kemper Hype' thing is dead now, innit?? Didn't it turn out to be a bit of 'the emperor's new clothes'? I think its just gaining speed. FWIW. Bob Rock is using one, and he has had a pretty good track record making good guitar records. [ fast forward to around 2:50] best, Sean

Regarding Evertune, its a true game changer, Ive been an endorser for years. Its absolutely, without a doubt, the only piece of equipment I wont do records without. I cant recommend it highly enough.
hope that helps.
best, Sean
