doing my first proper one tomorrow with some studio buddies. my mic locker has grown exponentially in recent years and I rarely have time to really A/B anything aside from maybe micing up a guitar amp, so taking the day to put some things through the paces. A friend loaned me a couple things as well.
mostly looking at drum overhead, toms (specifically cuz I have a pair of e22s on loan from a friend - really hoping I'm not that wowed), and guitar cabinets. mostly using tube mics aside from the toms (nothing that expensive is going that close to a drum in my studio!). planned to do a couple of my typical setups with them, only using a mono overhead (this is not typical for me, but I don't have everything in pairs) and then let each of my friends have a go as well. I figure 3-4 mics in OH position at a time and I can probably stick the e22s and another mic or two on each tom. want to see how they sit in a mix of drums, not just listen solo. fortunately one of my buddies is also a drummer, as am I.
I know I wanna use the same pres (this could get tricky, most of mine are just pairs, save some VP26s) and obviously level match.
