Cool idea.
It’s a powerful feature when included on preamps. Seems a little spendy for what it is, but then what do I know?

Yep had one of those. Sold it 2017. It did have a big chinese made transformer in it. I used it for different mics including ribbon mics. IT was not nice and it added nothing to the sound but took it away. It might have sounded different with a better? transformer. But it certainly was not a keeper.

Yeah….this concept needs an extremely high quality custom transformer, at that price you might think it had one. Every additional transformer increases signal loss, 0.5-1dB, so that’s also critical at mic level, it’s a hit on S/N period. Plus…..the marked Z is wishful thinking, it’s always a modification of whatever the preamp is, and whatever the mic source is, and with transformers many of those will change the sound primarily because of transformer mis-loading, much less because of the effect on the mic which is what’s implied. Plus plus…..it costs more than most preamps?

It is a neat idea on paper, therefore easy to sell at the right price point. Regardless of intrinsic value. "Sounds different" to someone without much basis is frequently interpreted as "good", rather than a more realistic "it did something".

Hmm... Gotta try the the other impedance option, on my Studio Projects VTB-1 sometime. Chris
