M49 is my favorite of the big gun Neumanns. It sounds good on everything... Drum rooms, mono drum overhead, acoustic and yes, rock vocals. I think it's superior to a U47 in terms of getting the vocal to sit with dirty guitars. That said, if the singer doesn't have good mic technique you still will probably have better luck with an SM7. or a 58. |
