So I went with mini with M2 pro chip, 16 gb unified memory and 1 tb storage. Hoping my Mesozoic era keyboard will work over usb, but I may have to upgrade. So I’m hoping to go cheap on the monitor. Any reason this one won’t work? Monitor Its the Canuck site as I live up here. Or is it worth splurging a little more. I can see myself doing a bit of photo editing, but not critical stuff, just holiday pics etc. Other than that the occasional word processing, and the audio stuff. So nothing that needs a particularly crisp presentation. Then backup. I had one I was looking at a few months back, I think it was by Nvidia. It was mentioned in one the articles linked in one of the Mac threads that kcatthedog shared. It had the advantage that it also included extra ports. But I can’t find any evidence it ever existed. Weird. Might be my memory failing. That is definitely possible. An alternative is something like this. SSD backup The price is certainly reasonable. I don’t know if it specs out fast enough for audio. And absolutely dreading the transfer process. Ugh. But needs to be done. Thanks in advance! Cheers, Geoff

Not seeing links?
Doing a fresh install means no digital artifacts?
If you have a mac now, a time machine backup helps ?
Enjoy the new new m2!

If the HD you posted is JUST for backup and not holding active sessions, it's absolutely fine for audio. And it will probably work fine for active sessions, too. I would also consider a cloud backup service like CrashPlan or something similar. You get unlimited storage with one attached drive for something like $9.99/month (US). One backup is never enough!

Monoprice has good value monitors, for those who prefer to spend their dough on audio gear. www.monoprice.com/search/index?keyword=monitorI've had one for about 6 years now. The PSU just died, and I replaced with a $17 one from Amazon.

Thanks everyone. Went with the Samsung backup. Unfortunately the 4tb was not even remotely close in price to the US. So, less memory for me, and less $ than the one I linked above.
Think I will go with the monitor I linked to, unless I can find a used Mac one fora decent price.
I’m going to need more USB connectivity. I assume there are d’ongles for that?
Sorry if I’m asking stupid questions. My last two machines were. iMacs and that’s just easy.
Cheers, Geoff

Ok, went with the monitor linked above. It was cheap. I’m sure there are better out there. But, did I mention it was cheap?
Bought a cheap usb dongle. And some humidipacks for my acoustics. It’s the season.
And the reason I couldn’t find the Nvidia backup I mentioned above. Is because it was actually minisopuru. Oh well.
Thanks again everyone.
I think I should be set but I may have some questions about transferring stuff and where files should be stored etc. I am sure m’y previous machine was not optimized in that regard.
Cheers, Geoff

For anyone reading this for posterity, you can get a display that connects via Thunderbolt that itself functions as a USB hub. Your USB devices connect to the display which connects to the computer. That to me is a more elegant solution than a USB dongle but it's really splitting hairs at that point!

That to me is a more elegant solution than a USB dongle but it's really splitting hairs at that point! And the minisopuru thing that acts as a base for the mini and has a bunch of extra ports and takes a couple different forms of memory is also a much more elegant solution than what I did. Wish I had remembered it before I plunged in different directions. There are similar products by others. Cheers, Geoff

Well it’s here.
Can’t get Logic to recognize the ilok plug-ins to save my life. I’m sure it’s user error and probably something simple.
And setting up my Antelope interface is being a major pita.
Eventually I am sure it will get sorted.
Anyhow, thanks for all the help/suggestions. Appreciated!
Cheers, Geoff
