I'm still amazed by how great they sound when fed by way of a 16 Ohm series resistor, so the crossover is at the correct frequency, and the woofer is not damped. People forget that those speakers were intended to be fed by 70.7volt lines.

Compared to modern domes Frequency response it’s the extreme HF that is really lacking, but if you throw a modern Radian with the Be Diaphragm it’s not that noticeable, I really want to try the BMS 2 way 2in compression driver on a 15in PAS but just haven’t had the time or $ to just play around. As old Altec speakers have spiked in value as collectibles ( where we these guys in the 80’s when I couldn’t sell Tangerine horns for more than scrap) Great Palauans Audio has emerged as both a source for parts and shall we call them modernized continuations. Of course they have much better QC. |

Hiwatt DR103 into a TraceElliot cab with EV15" (closed cab), either a M88 or a M380 (or the clone) or an old Telefunken mic. Preamp depends on how much compression or dirt i want. Between the John Hardy, the JLM TG or the HCL affinity all bases are covered. If there's need for compression i got a PurpleAction or something VariMu-ish. If it needs to go deeper, i mult it with a DI or use the Marshall IBS amp instead of the Hiwatt.

Bass -> Origin Effects Cali76 stacked edt. -> ABY box -> splitting out to:
1: -> UA 610 as DI -> Ampeg B15N, usually mic'ed with a FET 47. (DI compressed with 1176+LA2A, amp with 1176+STA-Level)
2: UAFX Ruby
Then run the 3 sources through Sound Radix Auto-Align 2.
