Looks like Rupert never designs decided to dip their toes into the saturation color box realm. rupertneve.com/news/master-bus-transformerNot to be confused with their MBP which is similar in idea but different tools. Probably not silver bullet but I bet it doesn't sound bad. Optical compressor in it I bet is cool. (Which if ltlo is reading, optical unit would be sweeeeet). Also wouldn't be surprised is allowing both blue and red silk at the same time was silver bullet inspired. |

They are a clever group, I don't doubt it sounds great. I didn't know about this one in advance, like the last release. IT's too bad there isn't a way to sway EQ and Comp positions.

Yeah, I'm not going to buy it one way or the other (not now anyway, I do like the concept though) but I also found that a little surprising. Seems like changing the EQ:Comp signal path is pretty standard for these types of processors. |

This device makes me wonder, why aren't there more optical compressors with fully variable attack and release? CL1B and Buzz stuff notwithstanding.

Wait. They want $4000 mother fucking dollars? Is that a joke? Yes and it doesn't even have switches making recall hard and maybe having stereo matching issues from a pot's l/r tracking. Grayhills or Elmas would be the most expensive thing in those boxes. Same price as a brand new stereo pair of BAE compressors or a used Crane Song STC-8M with better builds and accurate recall. You could get a ton of mix bus compressors and stereo eqs for that price without having to pay the "Neve" premium. How will that beat a silver bullet + a drawmer 1978 if you really want to drive things or an api 2500 with something with a really cool high shelf like a kush clariphonic to get some air back in it?

People who aren't making money with it. Many pieces of new modern gear are cool sounding toys for rich guys and pop stars which mainly serve to create problems for the people paid to clean up after them.

It is a bit expensive but all the RND stuff is after rising their prices. And sure it would've been nice to be able to change the eq before the comp and an additional sweepable mid band. There still aren't any good demos highlighting the compressor, so it is hard to say will it smack enough if that's your thing. One could always get an SSL type compressor or an Api 2500 before/after it.
As Dan mentioned Silver Bullet + Drawmer would be a cheaper option. Have only heard the online demos of them.
There is just something special how the blue+red silk sound together. They are just over used in the demos I checked quickly.

It would be amazing if they could do a 500 series unit with the super silk and harmonic. $699 would hit the sweet spot. I’m going to reach out about reviewing one, but I agree that the price on this is disappointing. It looks like it’s supposed to compete with the Fusion, but no way I can afford/justify it at that price.

Didn't the 511 preamp used to go for $549 or something? I see now that it is $699. That's not an insignificant bump in price. Granted, inflation and state of the world, but... Honestly, I was always a little surprised at the $549 price. I always kind of thought it should be a little higher in price anyway. |

Yeah, Rack 500 dual slot stereo Super Silk with harmonic, and with the cool 41 steps knobs... Allow for mid side too, and this will be totally killer.
One can dream !
I don't know what they do with these super small transformers, but it sounds very good.
