Karen Dalton
So just got the album and it is a different take/mix from the video. Looks like an M49/50 on vocals. Then three mics on acoustic. RCA, Royer, then? From l to r from the camera perspective. Who knows if that’s how it was recorded. Just curious what the mic on the right is. Cheers, Geoff

There's also a Gefell cmv563 hiding in the woods around the acoustic.
I love Joe's music. He can write songs.

Joe is a deep and wide. The fretboard journal podcast has an episode of Joe and Crosby interviewing each other and taking questions from a live crowd. Some fantastic back and forth between them. A must listen for anybody that enjoys music and humanity. There could be dissertations written about any of Joe’s songs. Goosebumps every time I listen to his records.

Thanks Jeremy! Such an amazing interview. Lot's of wisdom in that conversation. I'm a Fretboard Journal subscriber but somehow missed that one!

Some more definite answers here with pics aswell: www.mixonline.com/recording/all-the-eye-can-see-joe-henry-forges-a-new-path “All of my vocals and guitar happened at the same time,” he continues. “In the early days, when I was using my RCA BK-5B, what I was using on my guitar most was a Royer R-122. When I was using an M 49 for vocals, I started using the AEA A440 and an old Gefell M7 tube mic [on guitar], with the AEA placed a little in front of me so that it was picking up some vocal characteristics as well. Then I would put the Gefell M7 lower to get some bottom-end warmth, so that it wasn’t just strings and attack I was hearing; I really want to hear the body of the instrument.”

Definitely looks like it. So, another ribbon. Anybody used one? Cheers, Geoff I just reribboned a Varicoustic. Internally, the motor is very similar to an RCA 77DX, with a less mechanically complex means of varying the pattern. With a good ribbon, they sound good! Regards Jon
