You think it's similar to the Burl DAC? I've been jonesing for another Symphony for DA.
Hi - sorry to take a bit to get back,
I've owned the Burl A/D but not the Burl D to A, so I cannot compare those (for what its worth, I preferred
the 2192 to the Burl in A/D, which I did own for about a year prior).
Regarding the other things it seems we have both owned, I preferred the 2192 to the Apollo, Symphony,
Duet 1 and 2, and Ensemble (and some other less interesting offerings) in addition to the Burl and
a Prism Orpheus I demo'ed.
I will say I use both the 2192 and a Benchmark DAC-1 for D/A. The Benchmark sounds a bit sterile at first listen, but I find my mixes translate better when I start mixes through it.
You would think conversion wouldn't be so personal, but I've found it to be kind of like monitors.
Sometimes, some tools just seem to help enhance (or offset) personal tendencies.
John, did you end up modding your Apollo via BLA? I noted you had some skepticism around their mods, but
also have a real willingness to go for it in order to match your goals. I ask because I ended up in a similar place
with the Apollo - had hoped it to be a turn key solution (and have enjoyed the Unison offerings)
but found the so 2192 notably superior, it is hard to use anything else.
