I know EmRR has one But Is there any one else who Uses one they like ? Im curious if the proximity effect is more dramatic than my experience . the frequency graphs would seem to imply a larger bass bump than what Im hearing ?
Its sounds really good right up on a guitar amp fuller than a 57 fro sure but im looking for another to compare and see if the capsule is in good shape or its just the nature of the mic . If any one has one an has a comment please chime in
Thanks

Fantastic on drums and hand percussion. The entire 308 408 on up series was based on them IIRC.

I had one until recently - it never seemed to swamp me with proximity effect like some mics can on bass cabs or low tuned guitars, but certainly had more proximity effect than an re20. If its beefier than a 57 i think you're in good shape. Excellent snare mic!

Neither of mine have pronounced proximity, I always have them on the flat setting. They will fatten up something like a Bari sax or trombone, but don't create any real extra boom close on toms. They are not as smooth sounding as re15/16/20.

Well we are comparing variable D loading and different types of magnetic motors, so ther is that😎 Honestly EV N/D mics were so successful that through out the many different masters I was always surprised nobody said “ maybe some N\D RE 10/11/15/16s or 635a. At least they reissued the PL80.

If there's an EV38, why not... EV357 and EV44?
I predict the market target demographic, will simply go ballistic. (Cues up "Revolver") Chris

So I found another one , paid a bit too much but compared to mine it is literally brand new . The response is Identical . EQ positions ect . So I guess Im confident my original is close to spec . I may return it as I dont really need 2 . The midrange is fantastic like all EV mics and a favorite on fender amps , snare/toms cool . I rarely see these up for sale so I might hold on to it .

You need 4 ! I know Ward will agree 😁 Yes, @gevermill, you need 4. AT LEAST! Everyone needs 7 421s, 4 U89s, 4 U87s, 4 LS308s, and 4 EV38s. I have a bunch of the EV308s and EV408s . . . but now I'm keenly interested in a quartet of 38s also!

As I rebuild for more of a live emphasis I am finding 6 for utility and 3 of specialty mics that might be used for stereo, always have a back up and the same mic across the kit, or BG or horns just makes things faster and you have to have a back up! For things like kick, the D6 backs up the ATM25, etc.
