I took a road trip from Jersey to San Fran and back about 7 years ago with a buddy. We definitely didn’t have the right bikes for that ride but we were young and optimistic. He was on a Triumph Thruxton and I was on an SV650. After we learned to cope with being uncomfortable it was a trip that won’t be forgotten. I haven’t taken my bike out for almost 3 years since we got our house and have been in full reno mode. No time honestly. Hopefully next summer I can get new rubber on the bike and use it more often.

I have a couple... Present favorite is my Aprillia Shiver. I have owned most of the 100cc and under Aprilia’s unfortunately loading the toes means automatics and scooters, had a very very 2 highly tricked out SR50 ditech’s one tat required going to the airport for aviation fuel. I want a Manta when the kid is done with school or maybe Eric Buels latest electric. Have to support fellow cheese heads.

Oh yeah....totally. Since I was a kid. Hodaka, Montessa (always had a fondness for the Spanish bikes back in the day), Suzuki, Kawasaki, Honda, Yamaha, KTM, Husquvarna, oh man.... I can't count how many bikes I've bought for not only me, but my boys and wife and..... I'll have to get some pics. Cause a thread like this without pics is....well....... These days it's mostly Euro bikes with my main squeeze being a Husky TE/TX300 smoker (which is INSANE and brings me back to my youth), and a KTM 350 XC. But next week....well, actually it's going to be months before I can ride again with the foot, but the doc says I'll be able to ride again!! But after that - who knows. Jr is talking about moving back to Yamaha MX bikes..... The good news is that we can plate the gnarliest of off-road bikes here and easily make em street legal. Woohooo... These are recent bikes : Attachments:

My dad is/was the rider in the family. He rode with folks in gangs back in the 60s before vietnam and then again for a few years after but gave it up for a while during my childhood. He got back into it after I was in high school and finally just sold his last bike due to his age and a number of personal near-misses and one of his friends being killed on a bike.
I'd really like to do a desert exploration type of sabbatical on some dirt bikes.

So a funny story.. I was on a hike in the middle of desert wilderness up by mount shasta. Hiked out to this butte and could see for a dozen miles in all directions.
It's quiet aside from some wind and I start to hear this buzzing sound in the distance. I can see a dust cloud coming closer and it turns out to be a dirt bike coming across the desert from somewhere unknown. It takes maybe 30 minutes for dude to ride all that way and then he starts climbing up the trail to the top of the butte where I was. He gets mostly to the top and topples his bike and falls down onto the trail. I run over to him and he jumps up and looks at us like I just gave him the scare of his life. Turns out that he wasn't expecting a person to be out there in nowhereland. Turned out good for him as he cut his hand pretty good when he fell and we gave him a bandanna (I think) to use as a bandage for his ride home.
Just kind of weird to be in the middle of nowhere and another person just happens to run into you like that.
Never knew his name. Where did he come from? Where did he go?

Just kind of weird to be in the middle of nowhere and another person just happens to run into you like that. For me, aside from the adrenaline rush, that's the real allure. Being way out in the middle of nowhere with no-one around. We used to always do 100 mile all day loops out into the dez / mtns. The good ol days.... These days I can almost ride right out of the house to wilderness areas. Good times!

For me, at or near the top of the list would be Moab UT. Canyonlands, Arches, and really anywhere in the area is spectacular, and for me it has a mystical/magical vibe whenever you get near it. I cannot drive into the area without getting goosebumps. Also, if it's winter spring or fall, the high Mojave desert is great. Especially as you follow it up thru Lone Pine, Bishop and into the base of the eastern Sierras. If you have a motorcycle(s) or a Jeep, the trip would just become exponentially more epic. The AZ desert is also amazing. Sedona, east of Scottsdale, and up into the higher country thru the Superstitions, etc.. Pretty amazing. And of course the Grand Canyon, Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, etc.. If you get out this way, give a shout.

I have a couple... Present favorite is my Aprillia Shiver. Nice Ward!! The last Aprilia I was on went up to like 80mph in 1st or 2nd gear with a top speed approaching 200mph if I recall. Getting on it hard for about 3 or 4 seconds was enough for me to smile........then give it back to it's owner. LOL More pics everyone!!! Please. A thread like this without pics is......well....like an A/B compressor comparison without clips!!

I LOVE that area. Also been much further north, Lassen/Shasta/Redding/Lava Beds area a few times. I also love that area. California has such a beautiful variety of terrain. I had a Moab trip scheduled but covid killed that and haven't decided to flip the switch on that trip again.

_Rode this for twelve years and then a taxi ran right into me going the wrong way up a street when I was doing around 45-50mph. After those injuries, I sadly had to let riding go.

Downsized from a Yamaha xjr1300 to a Honda cbr500r . Been riding that for the last 5 x years everyday to and back from work. A nice round trip of 60kms through peak hour traffic. Nice feeling to be always ahead of the pack saves me 15 x mins everyday. 30 x years of riding and only 1 x very minor accident. Yes God watches over me.
Always been a just need to Ride from point A to point B type of rider. A commuter.
I did try some group rides, but spending 4-8 hours of riding just did not seem fun.
I could spend that time doing music instead. When i was younger i only had a bike so I did a lot of hwy riding to get to Uni and back home again on holidays and stuff.
But it certainly has its advantages over a Car and does put you in a different headspace.

View AttachmentAs my father says: "Two kinds of riders, those who have wrecked and those who are going to wreck..." I had to give it up after a serious accident. Miss it every day, but those other drivers cannot be trusted.
