Well I could tell you, but haven't renewed my Life Insurance-Yet. I'm bummed that Didier (Deedeeyeah) is splitting. Thrill came back, after a number of years. In any event, shows the overall "Water Content" isn't always safe to drink. Chris Deedeeyeah is leaving GS? That sucks -- I love his input! Maybe he can be lured over here.

All valid topics, why not start threads and see ? There have been. They just sink to the bottom of the ocean fairly quickly because the people here generally (more or less) are not involved in those areas of audio engineering. Now....if you want to talk about mics, guitars or compressors..... All good, and I like to talk about those too (obviously), but they do not fill the whole of what I'm looking for in the audio world. Here's an example : Anyone got any experience in getting the best out of a TalkStar? I used it a bit, but just can't really get the intelligibility I've heard others get. Tips?

Also, where is this poll? Hiding in the "Forum Issues and Suggestions."

Is someone here actually Fletcher in disguise? Just not heard much from him lately. He had a lot of great advice and a lot of personality to go with it. But once again, his advice was often spot on.

Didn't Elvis have a hit with something in disguise?
BTW I was Chevy Chase's "lung" (X-Ray of me) in the movie Fletch.
Maybe I could reprise my role, in the Go Pro film version of the infamous Fletcher. Perhaps advancing to a wheezing part.
Is there a spot for Mixerman too? Chris

It's moronic. As I keep saying in the thread, the thoughtful, knowledgable users (which, let's be honest, are an IMPOSSIBLY SMALL MINORITY on that site) are the ones who provide the ACTUAL value. The platform itself is worthless without their presence. And the notion of 'ad-free' is a canard. The most effective ads are threads that praise a specific piece of gear. THAT is what sells the gear, not to mention, drives much of the conversation around those parts. You can take away the ads the manufacturers are paying for, but there's no such thing as ad-free GS (or any 'gear' website, for that matter). The whole thing reeks of this classic tech bullshit where the platform gets elevated above the folks actually creating the content (and thus, the value), by the tech folks who make the platform. We know how things CAN go over there... it can be a next of vipers on any given thread at any given time. I've experienced a great deal of wrath from a few blow-hards (who aren't even in our field) amateurs who search the net for anything to use against you to win some brownie points with their fellow pizza faced, mama's basement dwelling, 35-40 year old unemployed gamers. There exists a management attitude of "we are the kings, bow down and pay homage lowly peasants" there as well, which whilst endearing to many can be off-putting to some of us. Tony BelMunch doesn't live with his mother anymore.

But isn't being "Banned in Boston" sometimes an honor?
I was only banned in a local Boston Tribute Band, years ago. It's been such a long time... Chris

As I was going to sleep last night I was thinking that one of the last appreciated, & I think completely missed assets of GS is the vast amount of audio history sprinkled throughout the threads. Just think of some of the contributions of our own Beard of Audio Knowledge, BobOâs posts. Just to give an example think of how much Steiger and Paul Wolf have sprinkled in the history of API into posts, or Tim Campbell and AKG. We are lucky that their is a an archive of this knowledge, itâs just sad that those who control it havenât seen the value in organizing and indexing it into a simple to use resource so instead of taking the time to grow it and dig deeper we waste the limited time of these sources to rehash the same damn thing every other week.

Likely a more suitable environment for his chosen communication methods.

Yeah last I heard he was still running the bar, every now and then there have been rumors of a return to audio and even a couple of appearances on the web with a stay tuned vibe. Fletcher is a character, in business that was once full of them but Fletcher always stood out. I wish he would reissue the old Mercenary shirts my â Rocket Surgery â shirt is showing its age.

Could an audio forum really thrive as a subscription only model ?

Could an audio forum really thrive as a subscription only model ? No, probably not, I mean how many Spotify streams would you need each month just to cover the subscription? Seriously though, what made GS is the numbers, it got the numbers because it is free, itâs really, really hard to get someone to pay for something that has always been free. How many people do you think discovered GS via a Google search of some question about audio and stayed because itâs free? What youâre going to make pay? Hey there are 4 other forums in those same search results and they donât require a single penny.

Guess weâre about to get busier here. First thing I thought, so every week we'll get a 50 page thread on ITB V.S OTB, the importance of mic amps etc. 25 pages of that will be people calling each other stupid. Then it'll drift off into politics, the Beatles and a 500 word essay on why audio equipment doesn't matter even though they're on a pro audio website.
Awesome..
But before you do any of that you need to treat your room. Duh.

Especially about my love of 76s or the big smackdown for advancing the cause of an 1178 recreation. { Not like that's something new for him! He's been doing it a little at a time since (gulp) 1987.} Love you CN!
