Let’s “pretend” I don’t play organ, or keys at all lol. What it’s the easiest and best B3 vst for a noob like me? I have Kontakt Vintage Organs and I just don’t like the sound. I’d rather use the stock organ on my Nord Electro 4.
IK is selling their B3 emulation for $49. I’m tempted to buy that today. But how does the UAD sound? The Arturia? The “others”? Keep in mind that being easy to use for someone who is just beginning to grasp all the draw bar settings, upper/lower registers, Leslie settings etc is essential. I don’t need the “Best” sounding vst if it’s a pain in the ass for noob like me to use. I need a good compromise between sound and easy playability.
Thanks

The IK B3X or whatever it’s called is a freaking no-brainer for $49. Don’t miss that. I had a little issue with dropouts before getting my Mac Studio…but it sounds fantastic. The UAD Waterfall is great too. It’s less mellow than the IK, but that can be a plus or a minus. I do think those are the best available. I have B5, but I haven’t used in a while.

This (IK B-3) is definitely the best! I paid over $120. on sale. Other 2 to consider are AcousticSamples B5 & GG Blue3.

I have the Arturia and it sounds okay. Even when I use it I pipe it out to a Leslie. About 80% of the sound is the Leslie anyway. If I could play better I'd never use anything but this..... i.postimg.cc/QM8gXj15/RT-3-Front.jpgI use it whenever I can. Nothing like the real deal!!!!

Do not mean to hijack this, but I do not think it is worth another thread. What is the best sounding and accurate B3 VST? I have a special project where this would be really helpful.
Is the IK B3X in that category?
Thank you.

Is the IK B3X in that category? Thank you. To me, it’s between the IK and UAD which is easier to play and/or dial in a good sound? The UAD looks like the Leslie is a separate plugin, which I could see as a advantaged or disadvantage, depending on the circumstance.

I have the IK B3X and the UAD Waterfall and they are different enough to make it worth having both in the tool kit.
Both are really great Hammond B3 emulations.

What is the best sounding and accurate B3 VST? The IK Hammond B-3x is at the top! And, as I stated before, followed by: AcousticSamples B5 & GG Blue3. (haven't tried the uad)

I use the arturia on regular basis, don’t bother dragging out my organs anymore and dealing with all the hustle. The arturia is convincing enough for me. You just need to know how a b3 should sound and tweak it in the right direction. In a full mix it will sound great.

I use the GSI VB3II most of the time. The leslie is buried in the back of my studio and I have not dug it out in a decade. Yes, it sounds better than a VST, but unless the organ is a featured instrument, it's just not worth the hassles. Funny how times change. There was a point in the 80's that my Leslie and organ were my most used instruments (prog rock). Now, they never get used.

The Native Instruments one that comes with Komplete isn't bad. I also distort it with a tape sim and it gets close enough for most stuff.
I have the UAD, but haven't tried it yet. Maybe I should!

To me, it’s between the IK and UAD which is easier to play and/or dial in a good sound? The UAD looks like the Leslie is a separate plugin, which I could see as an advantaged or disadvantage, depending on the circumstance. In my opinion the only thing hard about any of these things is figuring out how to map them to a controller. But that's not something you necessarily need to do. Thoughts from an organ junkie. 1) IK is great and my go to 2) GSI is very tweakable 3) I don't have UAD but everyone seems to love it But here's the overall thought. The organ is an instrument that has no right or wrong way to play it. Even the best players in the world just kind of push buttons and pull drawbars until they like how it sounds. There is no right or wrong, there really isn't. The only thing you can do wrong is think about it instead of feel it. Others may disagree and I suppose each style is different but I'm coming from hundreds of hours in the studio and too many days on the road and having played basically every kind of organ you can imagine. There is no right or wrong and that's what makes it such a great instrument.

Ok so I demoed the UAD, it’s instantly better. I like it a lot. That was yesterday. Today I demoed the IK, and damn I think it’s better after only 5 minutes with it. I need to really do a deep dive into both but im already 10x happier with either of these.

So I let my wallet do the deciding…just picked up IK B3x for $53 at Thoman. Great deal and I’m so much happier with this vst over kontakt.
Thanks for the replies every one

I used to use B4 way back when, but I recently got IK X3 as part of the Total Studio crossgrade and it sounds as good as anything else I’ve heard.

So just a little update after using IK B3x for a couple weeks. I'm really enjoying it. It's levels above the Kontakt B3 in terms of tone, ease of use and tweakability. I love being able to blend in a guitar cab with the leslie for some nice mid range distortion. Also loving the ability to blend in the DI signal. Those two things really make it easier to get the B3 to sit in the mix. I think that was one of my major struggles with the Kontakt version, it never sat right in the mix for me. Something was always off with the low end and mid range. With B3x I can get some nice mid range grit, and some strong low end, and then in the mix roll off the lows with a low shelf to get rid of the bass frequencies while still maintaining a nice lower mid thickness.
I'm loving it and should've switched a while back.
My next hunt will be for a better Rhodes/Wurly emulation. Although I get pretty good sounds with Kontakt I'm thinking of demoing the UAD Rhodes next time it goes on sale.
