Hi All -
Can anyone share their thoughts and/or experiences with Drawmer equipment? Is it true quality gear fairly priced?
I am particularly interested in the Drawmer 1972 Mic Preamplifier as a 'workhorse' preamp, but general thoughts on the brand are welcome. . .
Thanks

I use my Drawmer 1960 all the time. Consistent results.

I bought my Drawmer 1969 about 22 years ago from Mercenary. I was on every mix I did FOR YEARS. I use it in tracking as well. Sometimes I strap in on the mix bus even during tracking to have an idea of what some mix compression will sound like, even though the RND has taken the mix bus spot.

Drawmer makes good gates and underrated compressors with a warm sound that you can repair. They do not sound bad and aren't disposable junk. They thankfully chose not to flush themselves down the toilet build and sound wise like SSL, Focusrite, and API. drumsound The 1968/1969 has always sounded awesome and fat to me!

While not discrete, Drawmer is an excellent bargain, remember those 80/90’s gated drums? If it wasn’t the dynamics section of an SSL it was probably a Drawmer gate with most likely a Drawmer Compressor & live there is 90% chance it was Drawmer. Seriously I would sell them by the pallet to the large touring companies. The one thing I remember Brad Lundy telling me is there are at least 3 versions of the 1960 other than knowing the difference on the PCB there is no visible tell and the later ones are more reliable. I never really liked the idea of the 19- - series being pushed as “ Tube” gear, like the Summit stuff there is one tube per ch and a bunch of opamps.

Yeah Drawmer got rid of the tubes in the new 197x lineup.

I have a 1978 Stereo Comp... I've had it for about 8 years and don't ever see a reason I'd get rid of it- and Ive moved on from plenty of other excellent and 'higher end' gear...

I've had three Drawmer units. Two were really nice. One I didn't like.
Had two 1968 Mercenary edition stereo comps. Really great units. Very useful with a nice sound. Versatile. I had an issue with one where the markings started coming off the faceplate after a few months and Drawmer sent me a new faceplate. Their support was great.
Tried a 1974 EQ and honestly didn't like the sound. Nowhere near the same class as the 1968 in terms of general sonic echelon. Some people like it though so ymmv. I tried it on full mixes using the da/ad loop on my Hilo.
The 1968 on the other hand...wish I had kept one of them. Great tracking comp, especially feeding one channel into the other with different time constants. Nice as a buss comp too. It was a great swiss army knife when I only had one outboard comp in the early 2000's.
I had also used the Drawmer "punch gate" live doing FOH back before digital consoles were so common. They were great.
