Ok, but you don’t have to upgrade os automatically? There are also open legacy installers for older macs if you want to run more up to date mac os. Just saying there are options and we don’t need to blindly jump on the apple software update bandwagon. I run ventura on my m1 mini and my 2012 i7 mbp and compatible 3rd party software on both. I haven’t touched anything for about 6-9 months and other than updating logic, just run the software I have. This is why I use a local shop that isn’t affiliated with Apple. They mainly deal in used computers so legacy systems is are an are thy are well acquainted with.

I have just purchased the M2pro 14” MacBook Pro and use it with pro tools. It is a really decent system that I am struggling to fault at this stage.
Current track (yes I still mix; mainly foreign language songs for large choral groups) has 36 individual takes, all recorded in different locations so lots of elastic audio and routing to finish with a nice result. No nonsense and no crashes from the Mac. My old m1 MacBook Pro just couldn’t handle the track count and plugs.
I’d also like to comment on the migrating between the two MacBooks. It was seamless, all my plugs and licenses, the whole lot with little to no fuss other than the few hours it took for them to do their thing!
The m chips are a no brainer if you need a mobile solution!
Love it.
And to broach the topic of the M3; just because they release it, doesn’t mean the rest stop working! Find a system that works for you and you should see a minimum 5 years before you start longing for a new one……

Every time I have to contact Apple with an issue, whether it’s my iPhone or my iMac, the first question is inevitably “did you update your OS to the latest version?”. And usually that’s where the process stops, because refuse to update my system, as that will inevitably cause software compatibility issues, which means hours in front of a computer, updating software. I explain that every time to them, and they don’t care. So, yeah. It works great. Till it doesn’t. I will say it’s generally a stable system. But there are times… Case in point. Just last night I messaged Apple with a problem. Every time I plug my phone into my car, the Apple Music app auto plays music. Always the same song, and not one I've ever purchased. I can't make it stop. The first question that was asked, "What's your iOS?" After that, I was told to update my software. And that's where the support ended.

I purchased knowing the processor upgrade was right around the corner. My Intel iMac has been generally rock solid and never lacking in power. Plus, I didn't have to endure all of the plugin incompatibility issues. I can't see the need to upgrade for many years. And by that time, the processing power of computers that will be available should be pretty sweet.

What was the solution? It's definitely not an upgrade. I just had to reset everything on my phone and upgrade to newest iOS and it still does it. Mine seems to pull from an ancient iTunes library I had on my studio MacPro from at least 5+ years ago. Always fun hearing a rough mix of an old song you'd rather forget

OMG do you drive a Toyota Corolla by any chance? My wife had this same problem! Whenever she started the car with her phone plugged in, it would immediately play ABC by The Jackson 5. So the first thing she'd hear when turning the car on would be Michael Jackson belting out " BOPBOP BOP BAH-BOOOOH!" LOL! It was especially funny she had turned the car off with the volume set pretty loud. Annoyed the piss out her, but I always got a kick out of it. I always assumed it was because it defaulted to playing all songs alphabetically or something. Anyway, she got a new car and it doesn't do it anymore. Must've been something to w/ the interface of the phone to the car.

Seems they won't offer a single bit of insight until I'm on the latest OS. Super frustrating.
