Hello all , SO i was on a pair of Barefoot MM27’s gen 1. I dug em’ but now i’m in a much smaller (and unflattering) room .12x14x10. SO i ‘downgraded’ to 01’s …I don’t dislike them BUT i DO feel i’m missing out on some ‘detail’ and my room acoustics stink (i DO have as much treatment as I’m able to put up) so i thought maybe its time to ‘level up’ and get me some dsp driven monitors that can adjust to my room. I started looking at genelec 8351 (dunno if i’ll get enough low end out of them , the 01’s DO have great bass response for their size) Then i found out about these new cardiod designs so Kii’s , and D&D 8C’s are now on my list..(more then I wanted to spend but not impossible) …I do mostly Rock to EDM so low end is definitely a big deal and i’m not really a ‘sub guy’ …Of course i’ve also considered getting the new trinnov offering and taking it from there…I considered ATC as i DO enjoy listening to those but i think i’m too used to the ‘tighter’ barefoot sound and low end …(and again the idea of having a built-in. DSP interests me) I’m certainly going to demo as much as i can, but until I facilitate that I thought it would be interesting to get some feedback from you guys …Has anyone stepped up from 01’s to something i should consider ? (Again my room is small and Not flattering to say the least) Thanks in advance !!

No DSP but Geithain K serie (cardioid design) can work in small room. I've been looking at a monitor update these past few months. For my small room, it comes down to this : D&D 8c + PSI Avaa active basstraps + quite a lot of acoustic treatments or Geithain RL934K1 & Basis 14 + PSI Avaa active basstraps + a lot of acoustic treatments Good luck !! xxx

D&D 8c should definitely be considered.

I've had some 02's but sold them once I bought the Dynaudio Core 59's which in your instance I wouldn't recommend, neither would I tell you to go ATC. Despite their figures both monitors have a lot of accurate bass the problem is they require a good room and lots of space to place, I've heard ATC's in less than stellar locations and they're hardly recognisable. Even my Core's in a big yet not very well treated room (couldn't afford it) sounded crap and they have some amount of DSP too. I'm going to recommend Genelec 100% here, they can really work wonders when your situation isn't perfect and GLM is as good as any room correction software I've come across (if not better). The 8351's certainly don't lack bass for any genre, the thing is it's easy to confuse lots of bass with good and IME if it's slamming your room is projecting LMF not the monitors therefore you can't trust it (at all). GLM will reveal all and I think you may be surprised at how a set of adjusted accurate monitors are supposed to sound.
