The military has some pretty good terminology for these things.  Another one is "target fixation".  Ground attack aircraft can sometimes actually fly into the ground as the pilot is so fixated on the target they forget to pull up in time.

Lots of parallels except thankfully no one dies when we don't notice the BGV's are muted.
