with lotsa knobs....What's the best one? Wanting something surgical to really tweak. Be nice to find something that has more than one mid band - or a crossover of two bands.

Interesting. Really looking for 500 series, but that's interesting.

Really like the LC53a I put together a few months ago, w/2 GAR 1731's made with carbon comp resistors on vocal and acoustic. 1731's with carbon comps have a bang'n mid range in the pre's too. The LC is not cheap like a lot of people expect it to be, but the sound of this eq was working for me as well as the beautiful Retro Powerstrip. Different animals though.

I've been quite happy with my Speck ASC, which I believe comes in a 500 series module. Very tweakable and always just sounds solid. I track with it all the time.

i cant believe i'm gonna say this, but this is the only thing i think software eq is good for, fabfilters proQ in linear phase mode allows you to do extreme boost/cut tight Q precision eq with no audible artifacts. Save your 500 space for eq of the fuzz and goo mojo variety is MO

500 series Speck, The Meyer is an awesome tool, Modded by Jim takes everything the Meyer is and takes it up 10 steps! The first time I used a stock Meyer on a live rig I was floored! It made me try things I never would have tried to EQ knowing with any thing else the phase issues would be counter productive. Jim' makes it what everybody told me digital would be but isn't , in fact the last time I used one of Jim's Modded Units I put a Dan Alexander Neve behind it for some personality.

With comments like that from Tony Camp it's no wonder he got banned from GS.

If you have a few $$$ thousands spare I really enjoy my tube tech EQ1A. Also another speck lover here. Used to use the TC1140/1120 a bit but now it just sits there unused. I should get it back out and see if still works.

I dunno
I owned two speck ASCV's
I guess it depends on your usage, and how much and of what Freq boost and cut you are doing , Q etc... But I have found...that ITB is enough for me, when you have good preamps and outboard.
cheers

John, I have a custom 8-channel Sontec EQ designed by Igor (IJ Research) that I'm actually selling. It's got 4 bands. The high shelf is switchable between 6 dB/oct and 12 dB/oct slopes. The other three bands are fully parametric. As an added bonus the low band can be switched from bell to shelf. I believe Igor said the low band was inspired by a Massenburg, if I recall correctly. This isn't my image but this is what it looks like: This thing sounds absolutely phenomenal and does surgical really well. If anyone is interested send me a note. There's only a small handful of these things in the world. I's hands down one of the best EQ's I've used in my life. Brad
