Heiserman was my fave. IMHO there was quite a difference from T-Funk (in 2003) sounded relatively better vs. it's younger current brother.
Also I highly suspect the manufacturing differences DID make the old Bock 251... Sound much better vs. the UA 167. Sorry to hear that, for those who might think they are one and the same.
A Bock vs. Heiserman 251 match would be way cool IMHO. Like Newcastle vs. Guinness! Chris P.S. I DO really think the Upton 251 is a great match for John K's voice.

I own a Bock Audio 251 built on April 16, 2021 (before transferring ownership to UA). Brand new in the box — still unused. I also have an Upton 251 from 2022. My studio is still in pieces (being built). If Darren drsax wanted to invite me to his place in Denver, I can bring them down and we can do some comparisons. ( drsax , I guess I just invited myself over! 😂) hah, come on down brother! I'll shoot you a text, and we can figure out some dates. Chad

After all these years... Am STILL trying to figure out my dates. Might see Greg Vail/Tenor Sax this Wednesday at the Monthly "Sit In" night. Have been very honored to have Tony Guerrero solo, during my vocals a couple of times there. Tony was there to drown me out whenever necessary! (I keed I keed) Chris P.S. I might sing Tony Bennett's signature song (you know that one I bet). We'll see what kind of vocal shape I'm in then.

I suspect David Bock did some QC before the Soundelux and later Bock 251s went out. All the Soundelux 251s I tried had a special glow about them, for lack of a better term. They were certainly beautiful sounding. As to the Telefunken - I don't get it. It is not a current production mic, so what is the point? And I suspect some people will think that the new Tele 251s sound like that. By the way, I did not prefer the old Telefunken to the Heiserman.

I’ve mentioned this before, but probably about 15 years ago (or more) I demo’d a Telefunken with a vintage ck12 and vintage AC701 that sounded freaking incredible. Or at least it sounded incredible to my 15 year less nuanced ears at the time. It it definitely had that “reedy” quality. That buzz…or as someone mentioned above maybe it was some harmonic distortion or whatever. It was $11k at the time and I had just had a big song out…I alllllmost did it. Probably be worth at least $25k now. Sigh.

Sounds fun! I will also bring a couple of other goodies in my mic locker just because... ;-) You have a Soyuz tube right? You read my mind, Sir John. ;-) I also have a Barbaric Amplification C12 with all the right parts, including a Heiserman HK12 capsule. I’m curious how that same capsule might sound vs the other mics… now all we need is a Heiserman 251 to show up for us. 🤔

Man, the gas really never dies, that’s for sure l really don’t need another mic. But I read this thread and I need it. I don’t need another compressor but I damn spock posts a RS660 video and I’m not sure my life can be complete without it. Sigh.

You have a Soyuz tube right? now all we need is a Heiserman 251 to show up for us. 🤔 Set a date, and twist my arm. The Gladiator needs to stretch its legs in the high country, and there's plenty of storage room for the H251..... There's nothing I'd like more than to hang with you guys..... But my summer starts getting fairly busy coming up with out of town guests and a niece from Copenhagen coming over.....

Sorry... Most of us are still harboring plans to acquire a Redd Mic too. And by most of us, I mean me. Also thanks to you. well, you all know I LOVE my REDD mic hah!! I think Johnkenn still needs one for that incredible voice of his. Amidst all the mics I have It’s the default around here. Gets chosen for most lead vocals and most saxophonists. Would be the one I’d keep if I could only have one mic in my studio.

Neumann M49V 3. Redd mic

But a 44 Ribbon is even bigger... Chris I already have a pristine 1942 RCA44, which was rebuilt by 'Uncle' Wes back in 2010. And it is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G
