As some of you may know I've moved to a Macbook, The Antelope Zen is on the way. I am still needing to round out a few things and perhaps some of you fine gents can offer your experiences with some of the gear that I am considering.
1. The Adam A7s are quite big to be lugging around, I am looking at the Focal CMS40s and adding a sub to my mix room. The 40s should work for tracking duty just fine. Any other smaller monitors that you guys think are better? How so?
2. Several of the plugins that I am used to using are either not on Mac or out of my price range in light of my move to a completely crack free machine. Particularly the Waves stuff which I find price prohibitive, The Sonnox Transmod and Gclip I have tentatively replaced with Stillwell's Transient Monster and Event Horizon, from what I've heard on the old PC they sound quite nice but if you guys have some better ideas I'd love to hear them. All the others I have grown accustomed to transferred and installed with zero issues.
3. Clip on mics, obviously I am going to need a couple of microphone stands but the fewer the better, I currently place overheads in an XY figuration on one mic stand, I'll want two full size ones for the purpose of HH and ride duties, perhaps three short booms for kick, and two guitar cabs (maybe a couple cab grabbers). I was thinking of going with the Heil PR28s on clips. I hear great things about their mics and I'm sure they sound great and won't break the bank.
4. DIs, I'm gonna need two of those I think, possibly three. Countryman is what I keep hearing, how about the Radial stuff?
5. Bags, cases etc. The Focals will come with their own bag, The Kemper has a carry case, I'm looking at a Macbook Case that has a space for the Zen and perhaps a duffel bag that could house some stands, cables and mics.
