The moded one is so much clearer to my ears
I make them all with that resistor value and will permanently moving forward.
I informed everyone from serial number 1 to 150 about this resistor change with changes the capsule polarization.
I hope everyone does it!

I always say most mics sound the same until you compress them! Very much agree with that statement, comps either bring the best or worst out of a mic so I find direct (no processing) recordings useless. P.S, Josh I've wanted one of your Stam 251's and C800 clones for ages but I prefer to get them from Gear4Music to avoid wait times. Don't mind paying the extra, are you ever going to do extra stock of them?

I'd agree. With all the mic shootouts I've done, the real differences start appearing when you compress or try to add some EQ. It's pretty easy to tell what is and isn't working then.

Thanks for letting me know. Is there anything you miss? Just the knowledge that I won't be able able to sell it one day without disclosing that I personally modded the mic lol. Seriously, I haven't used it enough yet to truly judge. Here's a before and after that I shared with Josh Seawell yesterday. Hope that helps. The mod dropped the output maybe 4-6db? I may have over compensated trying to match the volume. I was extremely skeptical about this until I listened . . . but there is a very discernible increase in smoothness with the mod. |
