I didn't see anyone talking about this, so I thought I'd share this. I'm looking forward to this one.

Interesting, that they use the word transparent, don’t really think of 76’s as that, was the 78 circuit tweaked to have less distortion/colour ?

Far too tempting. Wondering if I should try and sell one of my 76's to help fund the 78...

I've been itching for an 1176, but this might be the direction I go.

Yes the 1178 uses mostly opamps instead of discrete transistors and doesn’t have an input transformer. FET compressors cannot be transparent by design. Transients will push them into distortion and Urei designs aren’t even close to the cleanest FET comps. Accuracy too. If you want accurate compression, get a vca compressor or use a functional digital one. An old, far out of spec unit or anything based on one and not a new unit, which do not exist anymore, will be far from accurate.

I have a 76D. I use it on almost all vocals when I need a bit of a push. Just 3-5dB on the way in, sure makes mixing easier.

I've been itching for an 1176, but this might be the direction I go. a 78 is not, repeat NOT, exactly a 76. it's a fabulous Thing and once you have one and 'get it' you'll know what I mean. A 76a is sparkle a 76d is punch a 76f is polish a 78 is sheen and refinement. There are 3 main applications for it. 1. Drum room, or overheads or other room 2. Backing vocals stereo tracking or stereo buss mixing 3. ganging the channels together for massive crush and sweetening without the noise. 4. It sucks on stereo buss. Fight me. P.S. Yes I know Johnkenn . . . I no longer work for them, why would I help them sell it? I had a hand in it. And want to see it succeed.
