www.seventhcircleaudio.com/500-seriespretty cool. I've always been interested in these preamps but the proprietary power rack unit always kept me away. Nice to see they are now in 500 series format.

I’ve had a bunch of the originals for about 7-8 years. I’m glad I didn’t wait until the 500 series came out because they got a bunch of use. Buy yes it’s good to see SCA has risen from the ashes and it could have only done so by moving to 500 series. |

The original rack had significantly higher power rails.
I don’t know if that’ll make a difference for preamps, but…

The SCA 500 series modules are using boost converters to achieve 24volt supply rails as required. |

It would just give you a higher output voltage if they go there with it.
The reason why people steered away from them was their flimsy boards.
I like the CAPI boards, but I would use better transformers in them than the ones they sell with their kits.

OK 2 points; First the Seventh Circle stuff’s biggest issue was it wasn’t 500 series or 51X, people gravitate to a more universal format, a secondary issue was how many people cut up their fingers trying to mount the boards in the chassis. Second, while I know what you mean by a “ better “ transformer, I’m pretty sure Jeff would be the first to tell you that isn’t what CAPI is about, CAPI is about recreating the tone of vintage API, warts and all, you want a cleaner 312, buy a new API! Ask Roundbadge who took is 1608 and turned back the clock about 50 years with Jeff’s assistance, if your chasing tone particularly vintage tones “ better “ is a relative term. |

So them not being edge finished wasn't a fluke with those 7th boards. I also remembered the lamination wasn't that great either and I fixed a few that others lifted lands with their soldering iron.
A full mix I would use better wide bandwidth low distortion. But like on a stem or group mix I can see it but I would think you would have to put an attenuator/pad on the end, so you can drive it to get that same sounds as when you drive it into a tape machine. Also, the end results is going to vary too because tape machines were DC coupled and the modern AC coupled interfaces are going to roll off a lot of the low frequencies due to the extreme impedance mismatches. So a pad with a higher output impedance I would use to adapt them to modern recording gear. An H pad would be the best at this.
