Hey Ward!! You should be all over this one!!! Well, you know, the project was my baby, and one I pushed, made waiting lists for and generated interest in. Congrats to AS! Convincing them to make it was great! As I understand it, Manny Nieto's personal favorite of his 78s was consulted as well. I'm really glad they managed to pull it off. I'm sure Chris and the team have done a great job and the quality is beyond compare to any other clone and likely better than most remaining originals. I'd love to have one some day. I've loved 1178s forever

Very excited about this. 1178s are my favorite fuzz pedal when you goose on channel into the next.

I have never used an 1178, only two 1176s as a stereo pair. How different is the 1178? Is it a completely different sound?

No. Insomuch as the revisions are different sounds, to a moderate extent, perhaps . . . but the 1178 is not like the 1176 revisions exactly. The two sides are interdependent and the ganging ability yields some tremendously cool processing to the sound.

I know that the three letter mixers and Clearmountain have always one in their mixes, but I'm not sure what they are used for, mainly.

I find the 1178 and the Revision G/H 1176’s work really well for acoustic guitars…I don’t notice the “sucking” or “pumping” as much as I do with the older versions. Not color boxes or as great at making shit explode as other versions…but very useful if you’ve always wanted a more transparent 1176

They work really great as hard limiters and excel on backing vocals, general room mics and drum overheads. They smear without the pumping or accentuating attack like a VCA or Bridge Diode comp does And what sean said!

To my ears, they are a little grittier, not as dark. You can get some cool, spitty fuzziness out of it if you use it as a line amp and drive it... I have not been able to get a similar distortion out of an 1176. The overall function is similar, though. I love them on drum rooms and guitars.

Never been a fan of the 1178's - only on drum room compression. Always chose other comps over them.
