I’m guessing that more than 70% of the members here use the native voice memo app on their iPhone. I use it a lot when I am sitting at the piano writing, or with an acoustic guitar. I would love to be able to go back and write a new top line over what I sang. Does anyone have a work hack for that? I looked up two track recorders for the iPhone and went down a worm hole. Lol

Lol Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but I'll often take a Voice Memo and shunt it into Logic, where I then use smart tempo or whatever it's called to nail it to the grid. Makes it easy to build further on the vibe of the original demo...

Thanks Antbar. I was trying to avoid leaving the iPhone. I often find it easier to write melodies away from the computer. A 2track version of voice memo on the iPhone would be great. Even if I had to sing on top of the original vocal it would be a quick way to save new top line ideas without getting into a DAW.

My gf uses bandlab on her iPhone for recording demos. Works great.

I have used this app for demo tracking for about 8 years. I even have a couple of demo tunes that are 6 or 7 tracks deep —LOL! Works well with wired Apple Earbuds for when the creative urge strikes. LINK: apps.apple.com/us/app/multitrack-daw/id329322101

I'm curious about the app Chad posted the link to...

GarageBand or Logic for iOS? I couldn’t figure out to turn off the normalization in GarageBand on iPhone/iPad. Otherwise, it’s nice to have such a full featured free audio app. I ended up using Cubasis for overdubbing audio, since the stripped down version was free with a Steinberg interface I also looked into the stripped down version of Auria, which goes on sale periodically. A compliant interface with a lightning camera connection dongle, and you have a portable recording rig. Although, I do like to use voice memos to record spontaneous ideas when plugging in cables is too cumbersome. And it’s an added bonus when the audio is somewhat usable for lofi fun.

Yes apparently so. I’m sure it’s not as quick and easy as voice memo but maybe there’s a way to strip it down for impromptu ideas.

I just import to logic as it has smart tempo, but, i always rerecord the Vm parts in logic once I figure out the arrangement.

Yeah it’s easier than I thought in GB. You can simply copy and paste a voice memo into a new track which is just a few steps.

If you do, vm is very convenient, as anytime you have a musical idea, you can capture it easily. I use Logic and mac computers, obviously , so I will turn on vm as I write arrangements, jam, , develop ideas, etc., you can share the vm file to your mac and load it into logic for further development: works great.

Garageband on your phone is surprisingly great for recording demoes with midi instruments.
I use the voice memo app a ton too. But there's not an easy way to get the files out of the app that I know of though.

I don't use an Iphone, or Apple anything, really. This was me. My wife decided to get me an iPhone for a bday; now they own me. I have probably 600 song ideas on voice memo. I assume the EULA probably signed away the rights somehow.- way too long for me to read. oh well. If the ideas were great I wouldn’t need to record them to remember them, anyway 🤗…

GarageBand or iZotope Spire, which I believe is still free. You don’t have to have the hardware to use it on the iPhone. You can import files and there may be an Android version. I don’t know, because as others here have said, Apple owns me.
