I currently have an unimpressive collection of LCDs: Warbler Mk1 (I like it a lot) and an Lauten LA-320 tube mic. My goal would be for male country vocals (mine), acoustic, and Mandolin as the primary sources I would record for doing my own songwriting demos.
Sweetwater is blowing them out at $600 and I'm in line to get one. Apparently Lewitt has discontinued this model and is letting them fly off the shelf.
Worth having or should I consider something else for the money? They seem to be respected here in the forum but wanted to ask point blank.
Thanks, Carvel

Thanks, Carvel I don't have the 840, but I have a couple other Lewitts (the 640 and 550 I think) and they are both great mics. Good workhorse mics that don't get enough attention.

That's a great price on that mic. I have a pair of the subzero mics and think they are excellent.
For your purposes, the 840 seems like a no-brainer at that price.

Fine mic but... You could also replace the stock tube in your Lauten, with a NOS 5751. Chris

IMHO the 840 is darker. They wouldn't exactly match, in any event. Got clips we can listen too? Thanks, Chris P.S. Paul G. had a 320 and suggested this tube upgrade in the past.

Everything Lewitt makes is great. Buy it if you're even considering it.

I can’t get past the look with the toob in the middle. Ooof It took a massive sale to get me to buy the LCT 441 because of the Alienware style design, but man it sounds great. And yeah, glowing fake tube on a $1200 mic? Really? But I'll say this, as much as I do not like the goofy design touches, the mics are extremely well built and (outside of the silly flourishes) very well designed. The magnetic wind screen that came with the 441 is practical and cool looking, very nice piece of industrial design. But what former Ed Hardy exec is responsible for the all the cheeseball stuff? Whatever. They sound great.

I can’t get past the look with the toob in the middle. Ooof Yeah, not a fan myself but putting the led behind it seems disingenuous - possibly a marketing decision or something, who knows.

The FET LDC Lewitt mics, sre a bit bright toned. Not neutral. Chris

The 540 "subzero" mics are freakishly quiet and clear -- quite a unique combination, and great for mid/far field recording.
I initially had a hard time with the neon-green capsule edge, but it has grown on me. I think it's kind of cool looking, now.
Their new flagship, 1040 mic, is awesome sounding. Unfortunately, it still has the glowy-tube thing, but damn if it doesn't sound spectacular!

Putting my money where my mouth is... I ordered two. Can always return them.
I've always wanted one of these but I already have an LDC tube that I really love (Signal Arts U48, it's awesome!) so $1200 seemed like too much to buy something I only half need. But I've always been a bit nervous hanging a $3k mic over drums even though I love the sound of a tube LDC on overheads, so what the heck... let's try it.
I'm not really solving a problem here because I'm happy with my drum sounds. Although I would like to have a nicer "all 'rounder" that I'm not afraid to drop.
$600 each? Can always return them.

Especially with Wade right there, watching/hearing me. Chris

Far from a neutral test but this was my first use "in the wild." I like the sound. Others might not like what I did with it but you can't blame the mic for that! You can definitely keep it very clean as well but this is not that. realgearonline.com/thread/15885/lct-livestream-good-mighta-pushed
