Has anyone used that specific version? I see plenty of reviews on the v610 but not the c610
Could I get away with using a c610 instead of an 1176 style FET comp?

Recording vocals, I use it in a very transparent way, before the 1176, as an instantaneous peak eater. Of course you can abuse it and make it distort a lot, but personally I prefer to use it how it was originally intended : invisible limiter, & with a light touch of compression. Then the rest of the chain reacts better to the audio. No compressison overshoot, that kind of thing.
A very unique and misunderstood unit. The fastest analog limiter ever built ! Faster than the in-between samples of digital capture.
I want their limiters at each summing junctions in my mixes ; custom Spectra sonics limiting/compression stereo modules are being built for me right now... I love it !

realgearonline.com/thread/14828/upcoming-sales-physical-recording-equipment?page=6If you check my post in the thread above there on sale for 1395$ with code.including shipping USA I have a pair and love them Drums Bass etc .They also have there 101 mic pre built in with I believe 55db of gain and can be used for a pre amp, haven’t had a chance to try that yet .. And as above post I also use the the special limiter function On mix down it just knocks down the peaks and gives everything down line a little more headroom. Bill Chenny the owner is VERY HELPFUL!! I’d give them a call he’ll gladly answer any questions and he also has some very helpful tips on using the C610

Personally, I don't "love" the sound of the compression, but its a great peak limiter, and them on drums to tame the peaks is awesome. Sometimes just a touch of compression is ok, but I think the magic is just seeing this peak limiter lights turn on occasion. They got a reputation of being dirty compressors because they were used inappropriately. I think the STX 600 is a really cool piece in particular, I'd like a rack of those

The STX600 has the 610 comp and limiter built in without the slope and release controls. It has a yellow light that is determined by the input knob . Set the input knob where the light blinks occasionally it’s in limit mode , if the input set where the light is on constantly it’s then compressing.. As Sean said it’s a very cool place. The c610 compressor has the Spectra 101 pre built in
Bill the owner of Spectra is a great guy and wealth of knowledge give him a call .
