What a GREAT tutorial video! Very professional and enthusiastic. Thanks so much for sharing, Mr. Knight! It sent me searching for info here on the TLM107... and I found you didn't like it... did you like it in those videos? I thought it was nice but haven't even seen one in real life let alone used one...the price is about 2300 oz bucks here.. so its not stupid priced. cheers Wiz

In head to head comparisons with other Neumann LDCs, I find the midrange of the 107 to be very weird compared to am 87, 89, 193, 102 or 170. It's the least Neumanish of all the Neumann LDCs in the mid. If you know what I mean.

I've don't the two figure 8 thing a ton of times on singer songwriters. It always works great. Figure 8 is great in general.

It's very rare that the dual 8 / near coincident thing works worth a shit here, but dual 8 with placement for the individual source always works well. I had a pair of shotguns near coincident beat a pair of 8's near coincident in one test, showing the nulls of the 8's really couldn't be in the best positions like that. Won't ever understand that sort of close AB position on guitar. I don't want the bass of the guitar dumped totally in one channel like that, ever. Sounds like someone forgot to finish placing the mics! We usually want stereo, not dual mono? hahahaha. AB with a lot more distance, for classical, sure.
