The schools around here had some “new math” for past few decades that I never could really figure out. Instead of the top number/bottom number working backwards to front, it was supposed to be an Improvement. But my daughter never understood it, other parents didn’t get it, I couldn’t figure it out, I’d just teach her the old way. And I think the tutor taught her the old way as well. The School district finally ditched it and went back to old school math, which is easy for me to teach my kids. And also it’s easy to do in my head, and I see that for my 10yr old son, he has been doing it that way in his head as well. Every store I go to I’ve had that blank look for math for years, I just let them keep the change to save the confusion. Hopefully the reversal to the old method will help these kids understand better We lag behind other countries significantly in math BECAUSE we do math by rote without understanding the concepts behind it. The way we older folks grew up learning math is a big part of the problem not the solution. Cookbook math relies on memorizing formulas and facts without understanding mathematical relationships. “Common core” math that everyone in the US hates is the way the majority of other nations’ education systems teach it. The problem is there has never been adequate funding or commitment to adequately train teachers in how to teach that way. I was fortunate enough to work in a school district that made a 6 year commitment to to teaching “conceptually” in its elementary schools and started by training its Kindergarten teachers and then trained each subsequent grade level. By the time those students got to 5th grade, their achievement test scores were significantly higher than those who had not been taught that way. You guys remember those “train problems” that people were freaking out about on the internet as being too hard a few years back? My second grade special education students could solve them without even having memorized their addition and subtraction facts because I taught them the concepts of what was happening. All they did was make their own number line and count up and down it. We quit too soon when something seems “hard” when it comes to teaching differently. Oh, and none of that post above negates how hard I am rooting for nobtwiddler to get his place and get back to making records. Sorry for the off topicness.

Thanks Greg, me too! I hope I still remember how to record! Been so damn long.
That said, the closing tomorrow has been rescheduled for next week, as we try to figure out the deposit thing. Although I do think I have a solution. I hope?

But the dad in me has to add is teaching the concept, without explaining how to actually use it is useless.

OK so you send a bunch of us each a check and we send it back via a PayPal for a purchase and you transfer it to your bank. As long as you send each of us less than 10k it’s clean.

Haha... Yeah something like that, I'm still signing! Next comes the part where they reject some number of signatures because they “don’t match”……..

Haha... Yeah something like that, I'm still signing! Or you'll be "randomly" selected for an internal audit by the mortgage company. I had a somewhat similarly unorthodox situation when I bought my current house 10 years ago. At the time, I was single, and a guy I knew needed a place to stay for about a year before he and his fiance got married. So he gave me the cash for rent up front for a year so that I could use that towards a down payment. That nearly sunk the whole deal once the mortgage company started asking where the money came from (Patriot Act...). Gigantic pain in the ass. I had to convince them it was a "gift", and that there would be no repayment owed (which was the truth), so we had to make up some bullshit story about his dad and my dad were old friends, blah blah blah... Signed and sent that in. Another friend, who was independently wealthy, gave me a few thousand to use towards my down payment as well. That caused similar issues. Then the whole deal almost got blown up because some inspector said there "might" be asbestos. Didn't say there was. Just said there might be. That started a shit storm that nearly resulted in me having to go in and tile the floor in a bedroom in a house that I didn't even own, because the owner had no more money to agree to any repairs, and the bare floor in a bedroom maybe had asbestos in the mastic on the floor. And then there were two separate "random" internal audits by the company. On and on we went... My realtor said that in the 20 years she had been doing this, that it was the single worst experience she has ever gone through. Nevertheless, I managed to buy the place and I'm still there today. Buying a house sucks.... Good luck. I'm sure you'll make it out the other side eventually. That church will make for a cool studio space.

For us it didn’t matter at all that the signatures were done in front of a lawyer and notary, they were wrong…..

Closing is supposed to this Friday, the 16th, I doubt we're gonna make it. Still have two little humps in the way before we can proceed.
Funny how such little bumps, can seem like a mountain.

Did I happen to mention the level of Incompetence by most of the people (companies) that have to supply documents during this process.
It's absolutely mind boggling.

The last property I bought a couple of years ago was super smooth. Got qualified by a new lender on the day of our bid acceptance. (They - agent - didn't like Wells Fargo and would not accept an offer with them funding). The new broker that the sellers agent suggested got me qualified in 2 hours so that my offer would be accepted, and then handheld me through all the hurdles that a self employed musician typically has. -- and then closing was a breeze. I never even physically signed a doc or hand delivered any paperwork. Everything was electronic. I put up one electronic signature, then clicked "sign here", "date here" about 300X's. Any docs were submitted electronically. LOL. At least up til the last day when I did have to go in and get a notarized signature. Hope yours smooths out nobtwiddler . It's amazing how lame some companies can be when you experience a good one. Everything on this deal had to be approved (OK'd really) by the sellers agent, and that guy was super dialed in, super connected, and made it all go like glass. I think he well earned his cut. Of course, I did put in an offer 10% over asking, and they WANTED us.

Quick update... So the closing today, was delayed once again! Surprise, surprise. This time it was due to the fact, that the underwriters noticed one of the copies of our bank statements did NOT have the banks Banner / Logo on the copy. Whoever made the copy / scan of that months statement, didn't manage to get the Banks name within the document. So that said, they required that before we could move ahead! By the time we were notified, and were able to explain this to bank officials, and get a new scan from them, with their name in the heading, it was too late... That said, we are now scheduled for sometime Next week. And I believe Monday is a holiday??? So that's this weeks nonsense.....
