Joe Heaton at AMS Neve has confirmed that the 88M will perform to design standards when powered by the iPad Pro battery
while using Logic for iPad Pro.
No 3rd party powered hub is necessary though that's how I've been using it.
I wanted to start a thread for 88M professional users who are considering using it with
their iPad Pro's and the newly released Logic for iPad.
Lets try and answer each others questions and discuss experiences that can help others
who might be on the fence about iPad work or regardng the 88M.
I was one of the first devout Neve-ist's to get on board with the 88M
and it once again is demonstrating how no software can be such a huge win
for end users and just how remarkable this peerless box is sound wise.
I've worked off 88R consoles and my own home studio is built around
8801's. 88 series sound is something I live with and rely on daily.
While the 88M preamps may not have all the particualr attributes and
capability of it's forefathers the 88R and the 8801, it does bring you
in the realm and has that familiar 88 series sound in a near perfectly designed
box that can be a mobile powered interface/preamp(s) or useful as an ancillary tool alongside the 88R.
I've even run my 8801 outputs into the 88M transformer coupled inputs for a little more
Marinair love.
I recently used mine taking desk feeds to send monitor mixes to a conductor and producer.
It also has the grunt and stability to hold it's own against mix duties large and small.
Whatever the initial design intention was for the 88M, now that is has lived in the wild for
a year or so, we're finding out what more it can actually do exceedingly.
Let's discuss!
