Electric and company labor over every single aspect of design, components and build. I would expect nothing short of impeccable results.

Hi there, RGO. The EC5B is, indeed, our take on the 175B circuit. Basically, it’s a 175B with extended Attack range, a SC filter section, and calibration controls brought to the front(for ease of setup). Sonically, it’s pretty darn nice sounding. Slightly less of the pronounced mid-peak of the original, but with extended low end response. The top end is extended, as well. These don’t, however, have the top end “sheen” that a lot of more modern boxes have, so take that for what it’s worth. You get fast and reactive limiting action with a nice, rich, classic tone. I really love em on most anything. I have been asked a few times in the past, so I’ll address this here for everyone’s benefit- I, personally, would not use these on a mix bus. You *could* do that, but they are pretty reactive. In general, this circuit really does best with individual elements that you really want to PUSH forward in a mix and hold. Hope this adds some value to the discussion. M

I'd really like to know the differences in tone between the 3 6 and 7 and I'm sure the other folks here would as well.

For the love of God and ALL that is holy, can you PLEASE start taking some head on/normal pictures of the face plates so I can read what everything does? Carry on...

Because the rack is positioned to minimize early reflections, you are right to observe that I don’t get a great angle for pictures. A collection of pictures from multiple vantage points linked below. Not that it is super-special or extensive but I love it. In general, up where I sit, after 7 years of buying and selling until I found what I love, there are: 16 channels of Pueblo JR4 stepped, 2 channels of Pueblo JR2/2 with Pueblo pots, E&C EC3, E&C EC5B, UnFairchild, Airfield Liminator 2, Buzz SOC-M, Custom Pueblo 482T Summer, Custom Pueblo 482T Distribution Amp, Pueblo P4s, Miad 4040s, Pueblo PS34 power supplies, Burl B32, Lynx Aurora(n) Thunderbolt, ZOD ID DI, Hayakumo Foreno VU Meters and Sweetwater Audio Creation Station. 10x12 room with 8’ ceiling, much credit to Panasonic whisper heat exhaust in the ceiling, Dyson fan, electric shades and acoustics designed in collaboration with GIK over a three week period at the start of Covid, when I moved from a much larger space. My position was designed primarily with absorption for mixing, the rear of the room was designed primary with diffusion for recording. I get a very close to perfect Genelec Grade Report even before GLM speaker correction. The lone exception being early reflections at my left, courtesy of the audio rack. Positioning gets me just outside of a perfect score. If I move it a few feet back, GLM has to do some extra correction and I hate to compromise the design effort. Does it have a linking function? Hard to see on the front. And I do not see anything on the back that would indicate so.

As your post directly followed my post, I misunderstood your intent. BTW, I was able to make buying decisions based on the KMR Video, Tape Op and SOS reviews Mattie links on his website. The KMR video of the EC5B he linked above did a great job capturing examples and settings. That said, I did have to go digging for additional pictures and specs. Tape Op: tapeop.com/reviews/gear/155/ec5b-limiter/SOS: www.soundonsound.com/reviews/electric-company-ec5bBecause the rack is positioned to minimize early reflections, you are right to observe that I don’t get a great angle for pictures. There is no linking function and Mattie notes above that he does not recommend linking a pair on the mix bus. After listening to my unit and the stereo examples on KMR, I think, based on his own preference, he is selling the EC5B short for this use-case. Does it have a linking function? Hard to see on the front. And I do not see anything on the back that would indicate so.
