Exactly. I'm gonna try and get the studs over the week and try and get a 6 inch version going (Brings it down to about 1K?). Really liking the idea of using a 3D printer to make plastic molded versions of these down to 800hz - would be really light! But I don't own one, so I guess it's pine. Portability is the big buzzword for me - for pine the maths comes out about 4kg for a 6"/15cm unit. Which is doable. Again the other fractal based one seems interesting and certainly the specs are promising - but they're going to be extremely heavy if you're layering any sort of ply and they're horizontally quite large. If I ran a full time studio I'd probably do up a few of these, and try and mount them on those legs you get for White Boards on schools so they can be moved as necessary. Still, again with pine, you're probably talking a max 50kg for pine and more for MDF which would near enough double it depending what grade of board you get. Probably why he suggests having it in 10 seperate sections. I've been writing this entire thing in Hank Hill's voice, for what it's worth.

If you have the dough, I saw someone on TSTCBN class. selling rpg diffusers for $100 each, but they were in latin american

So I've started my "Tape Op"diffuser. All we've got is a circular saw, but I'm about halfway through the cuts after about an hour and a halfs work - I'm having to measure before cutting as the blade is so darn thick.
I do have a question for those in the know - the wood I'm using is 2" by 1.75" Pine. Does this mean I lose anything relative to diffuser made with 2" by 2" pine?

Unfortunately yes, you should rip you pieces square before chopping to length, otherwise you have to make sure you install them all with the same orientation, you should also shorten them relative to the decreased width. Even so, it will still not have the intended resonance effect as designed for the maths. The effective low frequency scatter point is raised by the smaller dimensions in my understanding, still works well, but not exactly as intended. My advise is, You should down load this, www.subwoofer-builder.com/qrdude.htm insert your peg width, and let it calculate exactly what period plan you need good luck jazz T

Looks very useful. I haven't started glueing though still doing it as an 11 segment diffuser seems fine. Gonna have a play with it as soon as my brain has digested this stuff a little more. Thanks!

Forgot about this thread.
So apparently the 1/4 of an inch makes a slight difference, but since it actually moves up my max diffusion frequency (at the expense of surface area, obviously) I'm happy enough. I need to get another board and finish it. And then I might try sticking it in my hallway (tiny, ringy space) and bang around with an acoustic guitar, Ethan-style!

lol!, they work really good, i built 6 of them, i plan on building 1 very large period for my back wall using the qrd dude designer, the dimensions will be approx, 6.5'w x 4.5'h x ? deep. I'm going to go as deep as i can without a significant risk of impaling myself on one of the pegs Blackbird style! probably look something like this not this

Hah, well thankfully the centre seems to be the shallowest part so if you mount it so the cavity is about bum height you should be o.k! 6 inches is surprisingly shallow and with my bucket of cuts it's still surprisingly light. If this thing ends up being unwieldy (I'm using a reasonably thin backboard, but still) then I may scale the next down to 4 inches. I don't want to make them permanent mountings anywhere, so I'm thinking cheap lighting stands might be the trick. Something like these: www.thomann.de/ie/millenium_lichtstativ_lst250.htm

I actually (had) mixed in that room at Blackbird. Honestly didn't like it at all. You never felt any chest thump. Really hard to judge the low end.

Gonna finally do what I've been meaning and take a picture of mine tomorrow. I had to use a little caulk, so I'm thinking I'll use spraypaint to cover the ugly. If anyone has any ridiculous 2"x2" stencils I'd happily apply it. Otherwise it's gonna be crazy Russian futurism up in this.

Ok fella's, so here's my latest, i started building an EMT/echo plate, the plans i had were flawed, so i decided to use the "oops" cut steel to make 3 360 degree, fully adjustable, rolling qrd gobabsorbofusors. I plan on welding bent wrenches to the adjuster bolts cause that will be cool , and will paint and trim the metal. Also, i will honey stain the diffusors to try to make look nice. The back sides will have r30 ultra touch insulation doubled up, wrapped in material. These are EXACTLY like the skywalker sound diffusors, except totally NOT at all lol! They're much lighter, and great for my modest room. I will post up pictures of the complete and painted units in a week or so. BTW, they sound beautiful!!! Enjoy! T

thanx Anton!, heres the next 2 frames, now i just need to weld them off(just tacked together right now), and finishem up, pretty excited about these bad boys. I would have liked to call them R2D2 and C3PO, but i'd need a 3rd starwars robot name, mehh, so I think i'll just callem Larry, Moe, and Curly..the 3 stooges, as in "hey, bring in the 3 stooges", or any one of them by name lol 8)

Those look very handy. Can you stick 703 on the back side of them? That way you have a dead and live side.

Dang those are nice !
They have wheels and built so freakn solid . I can't think of a third droid name .......R2D2 , C3PO and..........Steve ??
I like the 3 stooges better anyways .
So where are you gonna place them ? Do you put them around the drum set ?
