So - is there any way to save this? Like maybe adding more blocks so the surface area is filled in? Surely the grid isn't THAT scientific...

Stuff in between with rock wool and presto: The DIY Diffsorber I'm curious to try building one of these but I must ask - how good are they? 1.5Khz seems very high to me. Has anyone built the 800hz version? I'm liking the idea of building long ones so they can be used freestanding for recording in, ahem, "non studio" environments.

So - is there any way to save this? Like maybe adding more blocks so the surface area is filled in? Surely the grid isn't THAT scientific... 8-|nothing scientific about a "quadratic residue diffusor" MLS based diffusors are superior to geometrical diffusors in many respects; they have limited bandwidth. The new goal was to find a new surface geometry that would combine the excellent diffusion characteristics of MLS designs with wider bandwidth. A new design was discovered, called a quadratic-residue diffusor. Today the quadratic residue diffusor or Schroeder diffusor is still widely used. Quadratic-Residue Diffusors can be designed to diffuse sound in either one or two directions. They too suffer from "flat plate" frequencies, but at a higher frequencies than MLS diffusors.[citation needed] Fractal constructions can be used to extend bandwidth. John, pull all those off of the backer board, clean and reinstall with no gaps in the prescribed pattern, the smaller overall size won't be as effect down low, but will still work for you. They do indeed have a very mathematical pattern to them, varying from it will kill the efficacy. T BTW, i'm truly going to mis that avatar

Let me just tell you...If you are ever building a house and you need to glue in the main beam, use some Elmer's wood glue...because that shit works...
Gonna have to start over. They ain't coming off.

Soldering is much easier. Plus, you can heat up the solder and remove the parts. LOL. Too funny thread. Too bad the picture of your diff...cabletrap is offline. Thanks alot. (And don't ask how my first home-etched and -soldered PCBs looked like....... )

What's the gap between the blocks? You could try making a grid of slats between them and make it into a semi-helmholz type? Not even sure if that would work..

I leave town for the weekend and look what I miss: Beautiful. In the eye of the beholder style, but beautiful nonetheless. I say paint it black and call it art.

Those look like very effective diffusers but require alot of size and space. Construction difficult is probably the same unless you want to make it all out of one peice of wood or something equally ridiculous.
I wonder could you get a 3D printer to make these?

Actually I think they are easier to make(platforms) ;there is a lot of repetition and sanding required for the other and than all that glueing; unless you use john's -50% approach , which granted is 100% more build efficient and, if you only listen to half your mix, works great; right ? that's the way you do it , get your jokes for free ?!

Here I thought it was a mistake. John's -50% Diffsorber approach probably the first board's claim to fame. I think we should hang on to it.
