Curious what you guys think about this. I haven't tried it yet but I'm pretty excited. I was about to do a free trial of Cubasis but this looks way better.
I have a need for a portable recording setup and this appeals to me. My use case would be capture, not mixing. So an easily navigable interface and efficient CPU use are what matter to me. And yes I know I can already do this with a laptop, but I've really enjoyed doing basic video editing on iPad and have been thinking about doing basic remote recording the same way.
Something about the iPad feels less like a computer, less like technology. In a good way.

I haven’t had an iPad in a while. Or at least a new one…but I can’t imagine them being powerful enough to really do anything heavy, right? I mean - maybe the $1k plus ones. But you could buy an M1 MacBook Air for less than $1000.

I like the idea for song development. I just downloaded garage band for that. Guess I will swap for Logic.

Up until about 5 years ago my portable workstation was Mac Book Pros of that era but portable became less important for recording and I purchased a mac mini as my live keyboard rig running Apple Mainstage so I scrapped the macbook thing and went for 2nd Gen iPad Pro for general computing duties. it got the job done for most things not needing it for music production but it was infuriating because every time there was an IOS equivalent app for something I was used to on Mac OS I would try it and without exception it was a disappointment because of missing features and changed workflows for no apparent benefit. This is even true for things like banking apps where a standalone app is provided. They all have missing features and I find myself just going back to the web browser version for all of it.
In the next 12 months I’m due to upgrade the iPad but I won’t be buying another iPad device. I’ll get a MacBook Air instead. IOS on iPad to me is a failure because it wastes my life just figuring out how a forced new workflow does the same shit I’ve known how to do without thinking for decades. As a long time Logic pro user I don’t expect the iPad experience to differ from this impression.
YMMV

It’s possible that it will feel like relearning something I know but for no reason. But I feel like a DAW is a more natural fit for a tactile surface.
I have an M1 iPad Pro so I doubt power will be an issue. We’ll see!

For mixing with a bunch of plugins very underpowered, but having used the Cubase App for a bunch of simple stuff, if implemented correctly the touchscreen offers a lot more control and it’s just fun for simple tracking.

Yeah I think I read that you should have an iPad with M1, so that is limited to the historical line up. Recent iPad Air and Pro right now. I think if we wait for the main iPad with M1 or M2 I might pull the trigger. But I do a lot of remote recordings with a laptop and it works fine for me.
I can see college guys who might already have an iPad for school getting Logic for their first DAW experience and liking it. You are going to need an interface that is class compliant. Not all currently are.

My home has ipad2 and the latest one. I also have a decently powered Lenovo convertible laptop with touch. As a crazy audio recording maniac I thought I’d love the touch features. But I’m back to my AMD desktop, an old 2012 MacBook (quiet and amazing screen) and usb midi keyboard with knobs. I use iphone over iPad. I guess that tells you my experience
