You might want to put Austrian Audio in the title. I know paulcheeba really likes them.

818 in omni on guitar cab, Rhodes, and Leslie are pretty awesome. Haven’t tried on anything else.

They sound great and are a real steal. I can eq very quickly to match a C12.

I like the mics overall, but IMO they sound better with the top removed and replaced with basket (if you're willing to do something like that)

I’ve got a pair of CC8s, as well as an OC18 and OC818 which I use as a stereo pair.
I use the LDCs on drum overheads, acoustic guitar, piano, BVs. Great in all those applications.
My CC8s have seen some live use as choir mics, and offer a fairly neutral sound on acoustic guitar in my home tests. Haven’t had a chance to try them on much else yet, as we had a baby a few months back!

Congrats antipodesjosh! And $1399 for matched set of OC818s. Nice! www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/OC818LiveSet--austrian-audio-oc818-live-setAddendum: First, Plinker - I did not see your post. We must have both posted about the same time. Second, I tried to order at Sweetwater. They had two sets left. They were both gone before I could finishing ordering them. However, they said another batch is coming in this coming week and they will hold this price til the end of the month. So, I am in on the next batch.

The head monster at Austrian Audio confirmed that any OC818 in cardioid and any OC 18 mic will act as a matched pair. This info given to me at the NYC AES show last October. Their manufacturing tolerances are very close and that's what makes this possible.

I bought an OC18 (cardioid only) live set a few months back for $1099. Currently priced at $1410 at Sweetwater. So, I guess they go on sale from time to time.
So far only used to record acoustic guitar, but I like what I hear. I’ll be trying them on vocals in a few weeks.
Good luck….

Not built to the stricter tolerances of the 18's. (They actually TOLD me this in the NAMM Booth!) IMHO if you're going AA, stay **18. Chris

Yes. I "knew" with some of our notables here, there had to be genuine merit on the 018's. Which was verified upon tryout. Actually re-try.
But the 016 was "harsh" in comparison. Chris

Sure thing. IMHO AA would keep a better reputation, without having released those.
What's funny is the inverse at AKG. If more home recordists "knew" the humble P120 sounds better than their 214 at around/under $100... It would cannibalize its sales.
The P120 capsule isn't quite up to the XLS/Lewitt 540/Austrian Audio 18's/SE T2 and the other high level makers. But "nice" for Demo things. Chris

Chris The biggest problem in the pro audio biz; the worlds largest dealer begs manufacturers for a dirt cheap product. They don’t care if it’s crap or even a rebrand OEM POS. They are going to sell it like hotcakes till they get the competition to do the same, then they will take the last one in trade in droves at next to nothing selling the used ones for more profit.

OC818 live set arrived. Sounds great. Worked with Rycote inv-7 shock mounts. I was able to get two of the lyres on the mic (obviously). By the way, the foamies are superb. I tried the trick of rubbing them over a white sheet, and no foam dust!
