I just bought a used Capi BT50 EQ from a guy on Craigslist for $600. I don't think I've evr seen a used one for sale. At least not around here. The kit with the op amps will cost THAT much. Then you have to spend a lot of time putting it together or pay someone to do it for you. That's if you get lucky and happen to get notified when Capi will release new ones again. WOO HOO!

I need to try these. I have an early 00's 550A handwired pair that I love but they're always tied up on guitars and the LP and HP being tied together isn't my favorite. Nor is the soldered in op-amps, if they ever get replaced it's going to be the CAPI CA-0252's. Those magical 0252's brought my similar era 8200A alive and I bet this eq with them is amazing.

Nice score - I've never seen used ones either. What opamps are you all using in yours? I'm wasn't even sure what are in this one. The guy I bought it from said they weren't the ones he had in it when he first built it. I pulled it from the rack and it appears to have the gar 2520's in it. |

What have you been liking it on so far? I just went on Reverb and there's a "mint" used one for $900 hah! New ones from CAPI builders are $750 - 800 depending on opamps. That site has been disappointing for the past year or two with increasingly silly prices. |

I like how you can boost any frequency to ridiculous levels without it sounding artificial. The top end is very smooth and doesn't get scratchy or harsh. I like where the frequency range divisions are for the low band. Very good for EQing kick drum. The top end puts a nice sparkle on acoustic 12 string guitar that blends well with cymbals, particularly hi hat. Haven't had a need to use the midrange much so I'm not that familiar with its characteristics.

Well Plush has been after my Vintage Nanocompressor for years too. And John Eppstein has been know to eye my Type C Exciter too.
(But that's curable)
Gotta guard some of my Production secrets ya know.

Being a kit you don’t know who built them so quality of the build is always a question mark. They are rare use and usually move quickly but the prices have been all over. |
