I always assumed if I had a newer Neve pre that I'd be all over the blue silk for fatness. However, on the tape sims (542), that red silk is incredible. It opens up a mix in a very effective but subtle way - never harsh, just present. And yes, I dropped the slate tape sim for good now.
Anyone else love Red Silk as much as I do?I run the tape saturation at noon, 15ips, red silk at 2:00 and then in and out to balance the gain structure.
The ONLY thing these should have are clicking knobs like the Elysia. They would be perfect then.

I’m looking at the RN Masterbuss Processor. Is anyone using this? That thing does things that I don’t think any other box does. I’m also looking at the Bettermaker stuff.

When I had a pair of 542’s, red silk was my favorite!

I’m more of a silk blue guy myself, but they’re both great. Choosing between red and blue is a good problem to have! I love my 542’s!

Stays on the master insert on the 5088. Don't use Silk much there, though. I do use it sometimes on the RND pres I have. I'm in the "little dab'll do ya" camp on that (and lots of other things, too).

I also always have mine in-line on lead vocal tracks, often with the tape process off - expected to prefer the blue but red wins out a majority of the time.
Nice on electric guitars too. I have one 542 and one Phoenix Gyrator EQ and their saturations are complimentary in some ways. Just putting 2 different guitars or keyboards through those flat (just for the output stage's transformer tone) is enough to add weight and separation.

I mix through an MBC and both silk options are indispensable (as it the non-silk transformer option AND the no-transformer option).
RND gear is just exceptional.

When I had the RND 5088 it was red silk all the way.
I have a pair of RND pres now with only red silk and I have it on at 50% usually … it just adds some excitement up top.

I usually push the sat a little, 15 or 30 depending on the genre and song, blend anywhere from a little to maybe 3clk max and almost always silk red to varying degrees. It's great.

I agree about the interactivity. Takes some playing. I've gotten to a spot that feels good and I don't touch them. lol.

Real quality sounds.

Real quality sounds. I almost always have all the dials straight up, at 12 o’clock. Sometimes I’ll turnt the silk saturation all the way up to 100% on a thin sounding vocal or something similar. But with all the controls at 12 o’clock I can adjust the overall saturation pretty well by controlling how hard I’m hitting it.
