The electra didn't really strike me as much. As in - I don't hear a ton of diff from Keyscape. I mean - it's killer...but how often do I reach for a Rhodes? Whah?? If you’re not patching in a Rhodes Stage MkI at least once an album, you’re doing it wrong 😂

Oh shame, I bought my latest plugins at Xmas 2022 .... so that's me out. They do have an odd way of picking people out for preferential treatment - I've spend multiple $1000's on UAD plugins and hardware, which seems to mean nothing to UA. Why don’t you contact support and tell them you were Xmas 22? Well, would it make any difference? I guess I could try, but generally companies don’t make exceptions because then they would have to do it for everyone who bought at Xmas 2022. Worth a try though, it’s a good idea. I’ll report back

After hearing the video for the Electra I decided to demo it even though I actually have a real Mk1 from 1978 in my studio.
The presets were very varied but I didn’t hear any real classic sounds from them.
I did however enjoy the section for amps with a choice of a Fender, DI, Rhodes and Rotary … very flexible.
The pedals section again was great as was the Studio section with compression and EQ.
I reckon that spending a couple of hours with it I could come up with some killer sounds.
But with a real Mk1 in the room would I just be proving how lazy I am? 😄

With the Capitol MC...I'm going back and forth on whether it's somewhat redundant for me. Also - I think I can get into a little trouble with it in M/S...so tempting to push those sides up and then you lose punch in the center. Going back and forth with the 2500 and the 2500 certainly has punch...the CMC can certainly spread the image.
I mixed something yesterday and used the CMC...listening in the car and on headphones, I kind've thought the drums had lost a little punch/impact. But that could be sooo many things. Maybe I didn't mix them with punch/impact lol. Not completely sure what I think atm...the CMC in M/S with the outputs the same does seem to impart a little width and bottom end.

Did more testing just now....the saturator on the Capitol... I can't emulate.... but... try the 670 in MS using the Ryan Hewitt preset "lightly kissed mix" and pro q3 following that in Linear EQ mode with a cut of 200 1dB Q1, and boost of 1dB at 2Khz with a Q of 1, and auto volume compensate on and let me know how well that goes for you against Capitol.. in MS with both just kissing the mix. I think at this point I will keep my wallet closed... maybe if it goes on sale down the road or I get a big voucher or something. The other option would be to subscribe for a month when you are doing a load of mastering... cheers Wiz

Wait - I thought Lat/Vert was M/S...apparently not. There's not way to do M/S and treat them differently. I could have sworn that when you flip to the LAT/VERT and then unlink the SC and Controls the Lat controlled the Mid and the Vert controlled the Side. It's not working that way for me.

That's how I do it. Maybe it is. One thing I like about the Manley VM is you can turn the M or Side all the way down, so you can hear how you’re actually processing each. Wish the L and R volume on the FC controlled the M and S volume when in that mode.

They said, "thank you for reaching out - but sorry we can't help" All these companies are the same, in it to make as much money as possible .... loyalty means nothing. Period. Fair enough.

Is this compressor up there with stuff like DRC2, DS-1, Unisum, and VSC-3? I suspect UAD will just do what’s in their interest. I’ve got no coupon either. But for the amount they want, I could buy VSM-4 or VSE-4. But I’m possibly getting close to just being able to get a worthwhile hardware mastering comp, so maybe I don’t really need this unless it just surpasses the best stuff out there.

After seeing the “Can’t Tell You Why” preset on Electra, i started trying to recreate the Eagles tune as close as I could get. Just for shits and giggles. It’s a pretty good approximation…and I couldn’t really get near it when I tried to use Omnisphere. If anyone’s interested if I ever finish it, I’ll post.
So I might get suckered in to buying it. Probably one of those things I’ll hardly ever use, but I’ll be glad when I need it.

I actually just started from scratch and probably got a little closer than Electra.

I've been playing keyboards for over 40 years and have played many original EP's and to my ears and my experience Keyscape by Spectrasonics is the most comprehensive, expressive and authentic library of EP's I've ever played as a VI.

Does Keyscape ever go on sale? Even just once a year? Good point, I’ve never seen any Soectrasonic VI’s on sale. Eric, is a very cool guy (from reading about him) he only has 4 instruments. Omnisphere Keyscape Trillian Stylus RMX. All industry standard and my most used VI’s yet, they’re never and sale and he releases new stuff only about once every 10 years (or so it feels) Stylus is way over due a refresh. But the other 3 are so well done, unlike other VI’s they stand the test of time. I so wish they’d put out a guitar library like Keyscape and a dedicated piano library. But at this rate I’ll of retired long before they’re available LOL !!
