I was listening to a Tommy Emmanuel recording using this mic. What a gorgeous recording, and stellar guitar player. Anyone currently using this mic or have any experience using it?

This is the go to for toms at a place I track, great for that as the capsules rotate. Never had the chance to try them anywhere else m, but they’re great there.

I've had a pair for over 20 years. I use them on acoustic and electric guitars. Some assorted hand percussion, too. Very pleased with them. There's been some talk that the newer ones aren't manufactured to the same standards as the older model. I can't speak to that...and you know how online talk can go. I haven't compared them, though.

The times I've been able to use them I have enjoyed the experience.

Old ones are great, the ones with the newer capsules are a bit bland and don’t pair as well with old ones. Bad news Blue will not acknowledge the change or when it occurred.

Just to note the obvious, Tommy would sound great through a tin can with waxed string. Which recording of his are you referring to?

This was a while ago. I’ve always been curious about this mic though, seems the Latvian mic seems to get some praise. Tommy is definitely a gifted player

jtc111 has one. They used it on the sax for this recording. Blue Dragonfly through Demeter VTMP. Sounds fantastic!

I've also had a pair of Latvian built Dragonfly's for not quite 20 years..? Bought them long ago directly from Skipper Wise.
Excellent mics for lots of things. Overall voicing is IMO a bit similar to a 414 w/ CK12 capsule. They have that "bright & open" thing happening. Very low noise, high output too.
Sometimes a first call for overheads, especially in a "good room" where the drummer can also balance themselves at the kit? Sweet! Lots of "reach" so add kick mic and that' a good baseline that pulls in a great 'whole kit' picture. Often not the best choice in "high leakage" situations...
Another spot I've used them a bunch is room / ambient mics for remote recording & broadcast... especially when I was doing the clear channel instant live some years ago. The rotating head is excellent to reposition & get a different perspective of the room without futzing around with the actual mic stand. Sometimes needed in a hot mic situation...
Otherwise lots of acoustic instruments... quiet finger picked Martins, mandolins & dobros... all kinds of percussion. Can't say I remember using them too often on loud guitar cabs? Not as a close mic anyway. Aside from the mega high output there's other stuff that works better.
Vocals? Sometimes. Just like any other mic.
Which eons ago a friend had a Dragonfly deluxe which is green & I believe had the Kiwi capsule..? Something like that. The standard vs deluxe did sound different, noticeably so but it'd be hard to describe the actual output other then the general carve / EQ. Not really a case of better or worse but no doubt you could easily tell them apart.
I've also heard the sewing circle chatter that the new ones aren't as cool but also have zero experience there.
