The BC12a ended up being way too bright on me. I think this will stick a fork in me trying to get a C12/251 style mic to work on my voice. I did basically like the mic though. Build quality felt great. Noise floor was a little higher than I would have liked but I don’t think it would have been truly problematic. I’m used to my 67 which is like dead silent, so a lot of other mics’ self noise tend to stick out to me. I am sorry this did not work for you. Was this the tube version? Mine has the brightness I expect and it is sweet. Not for my voice though - I prefer a 47. But for some voices and instruments, yes. I did not notice much noise. The only 251ish mic I liked on my voice was the Soundelux 251, but even then I would take my Heiserman 47tube over it.

I remember reading a certain Producer-pretty famous-sorry I forget who... Said they tried a Primo C12 on Smokey Robinson and it was so wrong. Smokey's "usuals" include 67/87/414 Brass capsule. (Found an old 80's performance and the Sennheiser 431, smoked his other live mics) I guess "Horses for Courses" again.* Chris *Similar to a Ref C on me.

I bought a pair of mint C12a all original AKG’s that sound superb. I ordered a pair of Bens for the drums and amps and it turned out they sound exactly the same with Ben’s sounding a little more robust for plosives. I was seriously blown away. Ben has nailed the early 60’s CK12 capsule imo better than anyone since AKG easily. They are such great mics and capsules it’s unreal. Hi Paul! May I ask if you ordered with tube or FET? Ben has definitely caught my attention. Received my BeesNeez BN251 and am completely floored by the mic. So now I was interested in a pair of BC12A. Would prefer FET, but it's only cardioid. So I was curious which one you had ordered and compared to your originals AKG's. Thanks H.Hansson

And I’m really looking forward to Ben’s new C12’s, mics is definitely making the best capsules for my taste. I just finished 2 251 clones and 2 C12 clones from kits with a friend using Ben’s capsules, NOS GE 5* tubes, wet tantalum or pio capacitors, Moby transformers and they sound so good it’s not true. The BN 251’s I bought are even better so I know the C12’s will be better as well. Exciting times for mic collectors for sure.

Slightly OT but still waiting for the level of 67, 251, C12 enthusiasm for a BN49.

Is that because there's less BN49's bought/evaluated to begin with? IMHO there's less Recording Musician "awareness" of 49's. Partly due to the 49 Reissue price. And the original's $carcity. Chris P.S. FWIW Manny Nieto digs those-a lot. And has done Records with the BN49.

It is interesting how one mic manufacturer can put out a mic, and then a 2nd manufacturer can make a version of it with changes, and then the original mic manufacturer can learn from the other 2nd manufacturer, and so forth. The evolution of mics is still occuring. Now I just wish I was 30 years younger!

I’m really looking forward to Ben’s new C12’s, Ben has "NEW" C12's coming out? What's different than the current ones he's got?

Right here on RGO, prior to Neumann 49 Reissue becoming official news, and it was scooped through personal connection, the enthusiasm for what became the Neumann M49 V seemed every bit as strong as the 67 Reissue. Although, as you mention, the 49 is not as common as 67s or likely 251s, it is obviously Big 5. I just haven’t yet heard BN49 enthusiasm, or any 49 clone enthusiasm, approaching the enthusiasm for Ben’s 67, 251 or C12. Is that because there's less BN49's bought/evaluated to begin with? Ben is very crafty with his NOS tubes and I imagine he nailed it it advance. Well before the AC701k’s ran out. We know his capsule’s are the best outside of vintage Neumann and AKG too so if the bodies compete with Fleas he’s winning.IMO.

I’m really looking forward to Ben’s new C12’s, Ben has "NEW" C12's coming out? What's different than the current ones he's got? New longer bodies to match the 1:1 internals. Maybe new swivels and they’ll sound very closely the same as the original ‘s I’ve no doubt after the kits we built with Beesneez capsules and compared them to C12’s especially if you spend extra for a GE 5*triple mica’s.

Hi there. Pauls BC12a mics are the tube variety. The gets though too are very special. thanks. ben Hello mics ! Do you know where your BC12A FET falls sonically, compared to the AKG C414EB sound ? Have you drawn inspiration from the 414 to create a FET C12A ? Do you plan on creating BN C414EB brass / nylon clones ? Thanks xxxxx

Have you drawn inspiration from the 414 to create a FET C12A ? Do you plan on creating BN C414EB brass / nylon clones ? Thanks xxxxx Hi there. 1/ we feel the bc12a fet is sonically superior to the eb. Why so? They are both quite equal in parts and tone but the bc12a fet has much less parasitic capacitive load to the capsule which is due to the decreased functionality and cardioid only nature of the mic. 2/ we have drawn inspiration from both the c12, c12a and the 414eb. 3/ at this stage, we won’t be working on a strictly 414 option as too many potential owners have no idea of the difference between the brass and teflon capsules and their associated price points. Every week I find myself answering almost abusive emails simply because there were, and are so many 414 models out there. lol. Thanks Ben

Awesome !
The c414eb has a nice sound, vey warm and classic (at least it's what I heard on the audio demos online). My ears immediately recognized the sound of it, it clicked and felt like home, it was spectacular to me. I fell in love, and the following 414 don't have the same thing going on sonically. The XL2 is brighter. The BULS darker. I connect with the 414eb like no others.
If your BC12a fet has *this* sound, it's a supreme piece of intel'...
I'll buy BN mics as soon as budget allows.
Have a nice day Ben !

The BN251 is the best 251 I’ve heard to date. I like the Flea as well, it’s a little more forward sounding, but the BN is the mic to beat.

So there is a new long body BC12 coming out? That’s exciting. I do hope is stays in the price point the current one is though.
