Anyone have any experience with this mic? Seems like it would be good on an electric guitar amp?

I was curious about this, and the Tonelux JC37 too. I have a C38 and a Barbaric C37 clone with the Sony capsule that I love on cabs.

And I would be curious if anyone is using the Manley Silver for guitar amps, and especially how it compares to a Sony c37a.

I have experience with this. If you like the Sony you would like this. I am not a big fan of the Sony C37 but hey it was Jimi Hendrix's favorite vocal mic.

I have the Manley silver, tried it on guitar cabs, it was ok, but prefer my stager mics. Wondering if this c37 would be better?

I thought the Mojave 37 or the Manley Silver might be different in that regard. What I have not done yet, is tried the Samar VL37 on guitar cab. (I have AEA mics that I have used.)

I agree with this one, with the Sony's being my exception (not counting a 67 or 49 back 6-8 feet for room). I've never used the Silver but the solid state Sony and my tube clone both have a specific mid to upper mids thing I like that's different to Neumann. Mostly used on clean to slightly broken up sounds, doesn't always work but I love it when it does. It's in rotation/combination with 409's, M88's, N22, and M160's. Would love to try the Stagers.

thanks, I guess mojave says that the MA37 is more true to the sony. it has a ribbon type tone, it can take alot of SPL, Stagers sound so good though. May not need it but want different flavors. MA37 has a cut switch on it that would make it great for guitar cabs, Sometimes I wonder about Using an IR like the suhr reactive load or fryette load IR instead of micing a cab, but i am old fashioned,

I have a pair of Silver Manley’s and really like them. I they work well for vocals, acoustic instruments and drums. They are somewhere between a ribbon and a classic condenser. For electric guitar I’ve been getting great results with a Chandler TG and an RE20. Little need for eq after. The Sm69 tube is also great on cabs with a ribbon.

Didn’t Jimi/Eddie Kramer use an M160 ribbon on Jimi’s vocals?

My Barbaric 37s with Sony C38B capsules are wonderful on guitar amps (clean and distorted), Rhodes, and vocals. I’m really curious the difference between them and an actual Sony C38B. Unfortunately, I still haven’t heard any of the other newer 37-type options. I mostly use an MBHO MBD 219 SC along with a LDC (the Milab VIP-60 lately) on guitar amps nowadays.

Didn’t Jimi/Eddie Kramer use an M160 ribbon on Jimi’s vocals? IIRC both M160 and C37. And SM56. I loved Jimi's vocal Character BTW. Also SRV's too... Chris

I'm assuming your 37 is similar/same to the one Chris built for me. The difference between the c37 clone and c38 feels very similar to the differences between my 87 with and without the IO 67 mod. Same family sound but more forgiving and engaging with the tube circuits (at least in my usage).

I’m not sure what setting the TG is on but it sounds great as the top end of the RE20 is a Ribbon like the AEA R92 or Coles 4038.

Bob O. in so many words, explained the RE20's older fraternal brother...
The 666 was designed to sound close to the 77 Ribbon.
Without the pesky risk of Ribbon replacement. Especially for TV/Radio applications.
Been tales of 77 Ribbons ending up in Dumpsters. Behind TV/Radio Stations in Days of Yore. From folks like Scott Dorsey. Chris

I just made a record this week with a C-37A on powerful AND intimate female vocals. It’s a classic for a reason.

I’ve been wondering a lot about the c37 but have never heard one in person. From people’s descriptions it seems like it’s a mic that would really fit my aesthetic. I’ve thought about talking to Barbaric about making a clone.
