My mate has M930 and I tried it for two different acoustics guitars and vocals and thought it sounded fantastic through Aurora Audio GTQ-2 and UA LA3. Has anybody compared the different Gefell models side by side? I've searching quite a bit and read the SOS reviews.

I haven't, but I have had a pair of M930's since about 2004 or so. I believe I had one of the first pair in the USA because my local dealer (when those were still a thing) couldn't find a single pair in the USA and had to special order then from Gefell directly.
I can't imagine that ANY of the variations could possibly be less than the M930 is. It's probably the most perfect "workhorse" mic I've ever used. Works for everything I've put it on.
So doing some quick research, the M930, M940 and M950 are the same mic with M9 capsules that have backplates with slightly different sized air holes to adjust their pickup pattern. That being said, they should sound almost identical.
I've heard clips of the M930T but I honestly couldn't pick out the "transformer" sound at all, so I expect it to be a lot less noticeable than one would expect by reading "transformer" on the label..

I prefer the Transformer version. (A/B'd them a few times at NAMM's of Yore) But the doggone Model identification, can get a little confusing... Whether it's Transformerless or not. M930 vs. TLM 103? LOL! Chris

The wider pattern will have the most bass, the narrowest the least, proximity or not. How patterns work, generally, excluding true pressure omni’s.

Sorry Doug. Grasshopper here is confused. Isn't Figure 8 a narrower Pattern? Thanks, Chris No....because there's 2 of them!...and not relevant to the mics in question. Guess that’s what i get mentioning pressure omni’s.

I have four different Gefells but just not the M930 or similar. But I sure wouldn’t be afraid to use any of those either.

Hey drbill aren't you a big Gefell guy? Yes. Love Gefell's. I've got 8 of em, but I don't have any of the above models. I have zero doubt that they are all great though.

I have a few Gefells as well. Mt matched pair of M930s are absolutely divine. They have that big brash Neumann midrange The variants you mentioned, vvvooojjj are all descended from the original M930. The 930 is cardioid, the 950 is wide cardioid and is a bit more like a U89 in wide cardioid setting, the 940 is hyper cardioid but again, sounds somewhat akin to a U89 in super-cardioid. I can't speak to the M930T, it has some electronic changes besides the custom built output transformer and is capable of much longer cable runs . . . but from what I know, it's very close to a standard M930. I only presently own the paid of 930s and absolutely love them. I really should use them more.

Made a move a few years ago to a Gefell M950 wide cardioid pair. This after hearing them on piano during the Warsaw Chopin Piano Competition in 2015. Incredible mic and sophisticated sound. Very even sounding and particularly shining on piano.
One of my mics developed a noise and I returned it to Gefell through the new USA agent in NYC area.
Gefell sent me a brand new mic for my trouble.
ALL HAIL Gefell.
The East German Sound.

I have it under good authority, the following. That as the Berlin Wall was being taken down, thousands were singing... "Under Prussia". Chris
