Somebody talk me off the ledge. I've got that J45 True Vintage (although I've since found out it's a special run and not a TV, but has adi top and all TV appointments). I made the mistake of picking up a Marin D28 Marquis the other day. Adi top...wide grains...big and bold and response tight as a Victoria's Secret model's ass...Sigh.
I have a feeling that if I got my J45 set up and had a little nut and bridge work done for the intonation, I would be more in love with it...but I tend to fall out of love with guitars after a while. Never really been one to be super sentimental about guitars. I remember a songwriting friend of mine (fellow guitar lover) once told me something like, "sometimes guitars only have so many songs in them..." - and there's some truth to that. Sometimes a new guitar can inspire you to sit down and write a song. When you're loving what you're hearing, it's inspiring. I find that lately, when I sit down with my J45, I'm more distracted by the tone than happy with it...Maybe it's time!

Well, really can't afford it...so I think I'm nixing the Marquis. I wouldn't mind another Golden Era, though. Problem is, I would need to sell my J45 first.

Think I might take it to Glaser and see if Joe can work some magic with it. Maybe replace the nut, saddle...get his take on it. It's a beautiful guitar...kind of waffling on selling it.

Man don't sell that J-45 John..... I mean that's an amazing guitar for sooooo many different applications, and it's vintage. Take some Beano for this GAS my friend.... it's not a good idea |

It's not vintage...In fact, I just called Gibson and it's not even a "True Vintage"...whomp whomp. Apparently, it's a special run from 2011 that has all of the True Vintage Appointments. Adi top, the tuners, custom shop logo, etc. But I think I've satisfied the gas. I took it in to a high end boutique place and played it side by side some $3-8000 guitars...Really only heard two that I definitely liked better. And they were on the super high side. Really, though, it made me realize I really need both Martin and Gibson tones. Just gonna have to save up...After playing all the Santa Cruz, Collings, etc. boutique stuff, I have to say that I'm very, very impressed with the Martin Custom Shop guitars. I played a $4400 D28 Adi Marquis that was just fan-freaking-tastic. And I wouldn't be scared to grab another D-18 GE at all.

I've had my Taylor 710 since 93, i would absolutely never, ever, sell it, for any reason what so ever, you'd find me living under the overpass with it and my 1972 jazz bass in the shopping cart before i'd sell em, also, it's not for sentimental reasons, it's because to my ears, they are a pair of the best sounding guitars i've ever heard...period 8)
So id say buy/sell em till you find thee guitar that you simply wouldn't sell..
