So, I go over to evil-bay, as I am apt to do, on a daily basis, and do the usual searches for C12, U47, U48, U67, M279 and M49. Mics I don't currently have in the locker and feel the need to purchase. And 2 days ago, up pops this listing for a 1959 AKG C12 is pretty darned good condition... I mean the capsule has be reskinned and some of the components have been replaced due to failure but otherwise it's in great shape. Serial # 804.
So it's sitting there at $1700. So, I throw up a bid of $5500... expecting to have to increase to 7k to 9k before it's all said and done. So, with less than 2 days to go, I'm still in the lead at $4050. And I'm getting pretty excited. I have a beauty of a C12a but it's not the same as having a pre 1961 C12.
And then I just now go to my ebay page and check in to see where the bidding is... and the darned thing has been removed.
And that, my friends, SEVERELY ROTS me. I am rotted.

For those unfamiliar with the expression 'rotted'... it's one my two teenage sons brought home from high school. I think I'm using it right...
Rotted = upset, pissed off, being resentful by being betrayed or done wrong by.

It's happened to me and I've seen it happen a few times. Usually ebay will list a reason for removal, Sold locally or an error in the listing. If it was just removed, it was probably a scam and ebay would notify you. Did you hear anything from ebay?

Usually happens when someone realizes how much something is worth after posting it. I'd expect you'll see it listed again for a lot more.

The guy probably got an offer for it and decided money in hand was better than waiting it out. Honestly, if I want something I try to contact the buyer to skip ebay altogether.

The seller 'watchman' just sent me a message with a "buy it now" price of $10,900.
Obviously, someone told him it was worth that and he's got greed in his eyes.
It is NOT worth that... not being completely original.

What really really sucks about that, if it's his first time doing it he won't even be charged anything for pulling it down, maybe .60c or so, but that' it.
Meanwhile, if I sell something on ebay I have to ship it to the person, wait until it gets there, and then wait 3 days after to even have the money put into my paypal account..... yea, that's fair.
Ebay has gotten really crappy, they are basically just a place for the chinese to sell in mass quantities now. I liked the old ebay, before it became a glorified global flea market. It was about people auctioning things, and if you put something up with a reserve or no reserve that was it, you couldn't just pull things down. And when you sold someone something you got your money when the auction was over too.

Always contact the seller first. I always try this as well, but it's amazing how Ebay has brainwashed a lot of folks on there in thinking that big brother is somehow monitoring and reading every message sent between folks. I was trying to buy something from a fella on their a while back and he was flat out scared to be discussing such a thing. He actually typed out his phone number in words and told me to text him, like in code..... kind of a funny little memory.

I don't know, one time I started PMing a seller to take it off line and got a warning message from the 'bay stating that they were "watching" and would "revoke my member privilages" if such behavior continued.........

That's not paranoia. eBay actually strips out phone numbers and email addresses from messages...it has happened to me on a number of occasions.

I find it extremely difficult to get an email address through the eBay messaging system. If an item isn't selling, I'll contact the seller to see if I can pay through Paypal outside of eBay and negotiate a lower price due to less eBay fees. Mostly, I buy used gear on forums through Paypal anyways. It's surprising the number of people who would rather pay the 10% fee because they think eBay offers anymore protection than Paypal. I mean, 10%? Really?!? I can move gear faster on eBay, but good lord. I rarely go there anymore. Only when I'm looking for something specific that I can't find anywhere else. Otherwise, it's community forums.

Yeah, ebay has rules against doing business through ebay messaging and not on the auction. if you get caught they'll ban you. They want their cut of your money damnit.
