Ran into a really weird thing testing out this Warm 67...I was just toying around and adding a 10khz shelf...seemed like I was losing volume the more I added. Sure enough, it seems to be phase canceling as you hike it up...Any ideas? The Soyuz doesn't react the same way.

I don't understand now something like this could happen, unless there were two capsules in the microphone. Someone with a better grasp of physics please explain 🙏

Is this a mono vocal track? What are you using for the shelf?

If you're adding EQ after the microphone preamp, outboard or in the box, the problem is likely not with the microphone itself but with the EQ or a phase clash afterwards. Start by reversing the polarity of the preamp But . . . Several microphone experts are members here. wave cdkellytskguycserrano timcampbellmics markfouxman maybe one of those guys might have a better idea?

Unless it’s a phase linear filter, there will b phase issues with any EQ or filter, how it effects the incoming signal is always a crap shoot.

It was two tracked vocals from the Soyuz and the Warm. So mono - mic into BAE pre into converter. When I use Fabfilter Pro-Q to raise a 10khz shelf, the warm one starts losing volume. The Soyuz works as expected. Really strange.

Since it really sounds strange, and it’s post conversion, have you tried doing the same with another eq? Does the waveforms look healthy to you? There’s nothing revealing about them that could explain weird behavior?

Does it sound that way in solo? Or only when played against the second track? They could be phase canceling against each other

Weird but I’ve experienced similar things with hpf and lpf at times. All eq introduces some phase shift (unless it’s linear phase) and I’ve had that happen with some extreme cuts where all of a sudden the track sounds like it’s out of phase, with itself, even though it’s a mono track and nothing else is playing.
As others have said, maybe try a different eq?

OK - figured it out. I had the "auto gain" set on Pro Q-3...It was adjusting for the huge boost. Ignore the dumbass
