I have a 2nd SA3A ready to go, just need to pay off some bills first! Did you use the parts kit from Serpent or just order from the BOM? If the later, do you have a saved mouser BOM?

I went ahead and priced it out on Mouser, and it came to around $125 not including several obsolete parts, and a couple parts with 1,000+ minimums. By the time I sort out the missing/obsolete parts, and pay shipping to multiple vendors, I might as well just get the kit from Serpent....

I have both the Sa3A and the CLX in my comp rack, can't go wrong with either one (or both). Also have another one that chap was doing (the "PIE") which I got up and running and is absolutely amazing on a drum bus or acoustic guitar.
I've found the SA3A finds itself sitting on guitar bus a LOT. Just touching it a few db at most. The compression characteristic is pretty transparent and just squeezes everything like a nice tight warm sweater. The mod switches are really helpful for those of us using DAW's and not a tape deck (the gain switches allow you to slam or pet gently)
The CLX has such a dbx taste, unmistakable. I have an old 163A and a new 560A (500 series) which also both have that dbx squish signature and comparably the CLX is spot on. (even without the cans just using the "stock" VCA).
If you're looking for a great stereo bus comp, you gotta check out the SB4000 by serpent as well. Its a 4k type box with some mods but an absolute genius piece on the master bus.
