Anybody try this yet? I picked up HCL's Solution opto comp and their Affinity mic pre a few months back and have been pretty impressed. Their Varis and Islander comps have been on my radar ever since. My credit card balance is zero, maybe this'll help me keep it that way, at least for awhile. wavegrove.com/plug-ins/hcl-islander/

UGH, whoever wrote that copy should be slapped. I detest cheesy hyperbole. I see there's no AAX support, crud...

UGH, whoever wrote that copy should be slapped. Haha! I had a similar response to a Chandler product, and it came back to bite me in the arse!

I've just been digging into it for several mix sessions.
I have a 2017 HW Varis and had an Islander on demo loan for a while. Top gear and good people to deal with. I couldn't rationalize investing in the Islander too and sent it back so was excited to hear about the plugin.
The Islander left last year so I can't A/B the digitial counterpart but the workflow and sonics are familiar. It's capable of really deep gain reduction without sounding bad, and I like that the Dry and Wet paths have different sonic signatures. I was using the HW a lot as a line amp, blending the Dry/Wet gains to get different color unity gain or boosts into my ADC.
The plugin harmonics sound convincing and lively, with wet gain being notably brighter, and both wet/dry saturations enriching the mids.
I like it mostly in FF mode with the 75 or 150Hz SC low cut when used for bus glueing vari mu compression. The knee is more gentle at lower input levels so the action is smooth and subtle, but the calibration lets you push it into more audible/creative action.
Not much to say about the clipper yet, as I usually rely on my goto dedicated plugins with detailed metering and knee control for that.
